Ferret
I've been working on a new art quilt and I've got to the quilting stage. The first part is up on my blog today and I will be blogging each day until it's done so people can see how it comes together. Thought some of you might find it fun. http://ferfab.blogspot.com/ Ferret
ffq-lar
I have been following your progress with this one, Ferret. It will be gorgeous! I was nodding when you faced the dilemma of finding purple thread to use. That is always a hard one to match. I love where you are with the hair right now. Sandra Darlington
It already looks awesome. I'll have to follow your blog and watch the progress of this winner.
Primitive1
Thanks for posting, it is fun to watch your progress on this beautiful quilt - I can't wait to see it finished!
Ferret
I don't understand why purple is such a problem colour. It's hard to get fabric or threads but yet a lot of quilters say they love the colour. Ferret
LibbyG
Wow! You're truly an artist. I doubt I could ever quilt anything that looked like hair. Let us know if you find Simon's quilt. That's a truly stunning quilt. Would love to see closeups of it. Keep posting so we can see your finished product.
LadyLake
Thank you for sharing your detailed considerations and decisions as you create your art quilt, Ferret. Very few people would take the time, or be able to describe, the considerations and decisions involved with making an art quilt. It is fascinating. Bonnie in Ok
Wow so glad you shared this I haven't seen any quilting like this in real life and always wondered how you went about it. One question I have is you say you spray in a box what type of box do you use? I can hardly wait to see the rest. So wish I could have gotten into this about 30 years ago. Whatever I have lying around At the moment I've been getting snacks in the post from a company called graze, they come in a box. So every few days I get a new box They aren't big but they are plentiful. It really does depend what I have, carrier bags got pressed into service for some of my other quilts. Mostly with this sort of quilting I start where I can see what to do then work my way to the bits that are less obvious. Ferret

Bonnie in Ok
What type of batting is in your quilt that you are working on? What have you found to give you the results you like? I am having issues with them hanging with waves so guessing it is the batting because the shape is squared.
Ferret
This one uses the thickest cotton from the dream company. It is very thick and quite dense. Others have 80/20 or cotton in. It might be your quilt needs blocking or pressing to help it hold it's shape. Waves when hanging can also be caused by very dense quilting in just a few areas of the quilt. Which is why I am being careful how much I quilt the hair. Ferret
LibbyG
What size will the finished quilt be?
Ferret
It will be over 1m on a side It's bigger than I wanted but there is a show here that changed it's rules to make that the minimum size. I won't be pandering to it again. It is more or less the width of standard fabric so I would guess 50" - 60" Too big legs are up Ferret
Ferret
Last quilting piece up, I should get a photo of the whole thing over the weekend. I thin it will end up 45x35, I hope. It really is a lot bigger than I wanted and I think I will minimise how much bigger than the image it ends up. Ferret
