Agree. Top tension not tight enough. Like Joan, I try always to go through all three holes all of the time. As a last resort and only by exception do I go down to two holes. If needed, I go a little looser in the bobbin so I can accommodate a tighter tension on the top. Do very slight (1/8 to 1/4) incremental tightening turns on the top knob until you get the results you want.

And yeah I sometimes have to break out the Sewer's Aid. Especially with tricky cotton threads like Valdani and sometimes King Tut.

I don't use a thread net. I found it to be cumbersome for me.
