Pat C
Hi everyone, I'll be quilting a batik customer quilt soon, probablay bed size, and she said it was mostly darks fabrics but a few lights thrown in. Are "pokies" from batting an issue on batiks? One of my concerns is using white batting and potentially having little white dots on the dark batiks. She usually purchases a cheaper batting, but I'm thinking I would want one with scrim to help prevent the pokies. I've read on this forum about using a smaller needle size on batiks, but couldn't remember if that was to help prevent pokies or mostly just to reduce hole size. Thanks in advance for suggestions! Corey
Wool is good, QD or Hobbs, QD 70/30 is good, Hobbs 80/20 is ok. I use 4.0 size needle, some prefer 3.5.
Quilting Heidi
Wool is my favorite batting and I never get pokies with it. Normally if I get batting pokies it is with hobbs 80/20 and with a looser woven backer.
yankiequilter
I have done batik top and back and used Hobbs Polydown and have not had any pokies. I normally use a 3.5 needle with batik fabrics. I have had pokie problems with Warm and Natural and regular cotton fabrics and definitely would not use it with batik. Zora
Dream poly works well, also. I have never had problems with bearding using any Quilter's Dream product.
Primitive1
You could also go with QD black poly....I've used that with great success!
CindyT
The opportunity quilt I just quilted had batik top and bottom. I used QD wool with 3.5 needle and had no pokies whatsoever.
