GMALKB
Just back from Des Moines and picking up my quilts that I had entered.............no ribbons this year, but overheard a couple of the gals in charge talking about beefed up security because they had a terrible thing happen ! Any of you Iowa or Midwest gals hear anything about that? I've heard of quilts being stolen at the big quilt shows and all, but wondering if anyone heard any horror stories at the Iowa State Fair Exhibits. meg
I'm wondering how many quilts are entered in your State Fair? I've found the quilts here in NY to be disappointingly few.
Mary Beth
Meg, the Iowa state fair has one of the best showings of quilts ever!! I have never been, but I hear tell it is huge.

Norma H
Unfortunately there was a quilt missing from the Iowa State Fair - I just read about it on Facebook " . . .Some of you may have already seen this, but thought I would share it here anyway. My customer Renee McPhee had her blue ribbon quilt stolen while still on display at the fair on Saturday. . . " It has light blocks with flower pots - looks like they're embroidered, the opposite blocks are dark browns/reds in 16-patch blocks. They think someone reached into the room and took it with the hangers still attached. The quilts were hanging with pants hangers over the rods. meg
Like Norma, I just saw this on Facebook. It had a blue ribbon, Renee McPhee was the quilter of the quilt. She's very upset, rightfully so. What is wrong with people?
Pat C
What a terrible thing to have a quilt stolen. Good grief. How can people that do such things sleep at night? I hope they find the quilt and the thief.
Sharond
That is awful! Our Minnesota State Fair starts on Thursday, and they have a lot of quilts. The top winner from each of the county fairs, if they enter the state fair, are hung on large panels, kind of like a flip book. The rest of the entries are on display I huge glass cases. I have not entered anything in the state fair, not sure if they have had any issues with quilts disappearing.
JenniferBernard
This is a picture of the stolen quilt. So sad for Renee! The Iowa State Fair has very good in take and release procedures for the hundreds of entries. I have entered for many years. They took extra precautions this year when we picked up our quilts. We are escorted in 1 at a time to take down our entries. My helper had to find a pole to take a high quilt down and I had to follower her as she looked for one. We had a record breaking attendance at the fair this year of over 1,200,000 people. The person that stole the quilt just took it down and walked away. The majority of people who view the quilts are non-quilters and would not have thought that taking a quilt down was odd. I often find myself explaining different quilting designs or techniques to people discussing and viewing the quilts. It is fun to listen to all the different comments. But not fun to have a thief around!
