amadarling
Hi there - I'm after some advice for this particular dilemma: My client has a very deep purple batik backing and a mostly white quilt top. Any advice on which battings would work best to obscure any purple darkness showing through causing the front side to dull down? Thank you in advance your ideas would be greatly appreciated! Zora
A thick batting like Warm and White with a layer of poly on top of that. Alternatively, I would tell her the chosen backing is not an appropriate choice with the exact reason and have her provide something else. I doubt she knows it is a problem. They just look at backings with the idea that they are pretty with no idea how the whole thing works together.
IQuiltToo
Another major point, that dark purple batik will run like crazy. You should have seen my color catchers after washing purple and blue batiks!
dbams
Hopefully the client pre-washed/treated that batik and removed the excess dye. If not, she will have a real mess if she ever washes this quilt.
FloridaMissy
another issue will be your bobbin thread color, dark purple or black and white thread on top, good luck. I would call her and get her to change the backing for something lighter.
amadarling
Well Ladies, Thank you all for your comments - all greatly heeded and passed on to my customer - perhaps she will decide to switch the backing!
