Zora
Gosh..I don't think I would agonize a great deal over this one. If your customer wants custom..outline the geisha girls in the blocks and stipple the rest of the block behind them. For the busy print frames, a straight line or two. Something swirly in the next frame..vines or feathers and curls. Feathers in outer black border. A ginko panto would also work. It's not going to be a silk purse no matter what you do! Primitive1
I would also out line those girls in the blocks and then do a continuous gingko in the larger sashings and outer border...
Gamache
Outline the geisha girls. Then do a shashiko style texture in the frames. Perhaps a shiny gold thread in the frames could set the quilting off. Chris
Quilting Heidi
Asian just doesn't talk to me! I panic every time I get one. Clam shells work really well so maybe that or bamboo in the borders and then just outline the geisha girls. Good luck.

lindasewsit
I figured out how to post. Here's some pics of one I did. I did the fish by drawing on press n seal and "sticking"it to the fabric and stitching over it.
