Deann
I was wondering if I could trace a pattern out on tissue paper and then quilt over it - or would it get little pieces of tissue paper inside the machine? If I can't use paper on top, how do I cut my own stencil of the design?
srichardson
Golden Threads make a paper to do just that. It is very similar to tissue paper, perhaps a little stiffer. I have used tissue on my DSM without a problem. I haven't tried if on my Millie yet. Sue
Quilting Heidi
Deann, I make my own stencils all the time. The easiest way is to draw it on something stiff like plastic or even two pieces of freezer paper ironed together. Then stitch on your DSM using a large needle (jean or leather needle) without thread. Walla you now have a stencil.
MtnBarb
I've used tissue paper and Glad's Press & Seal (regular not freezer) with the pattern drawn on it really well. Both do leave a little paper or plastic in the stitches but it's really easy to pick it out.
Sheri Butler
If I want a "block stencil" I use a manilla folder, (only one side of course) and draw the design on there. I also use my DSM, empty needle and then I use the miracle chalk and pounce it on my quilt. The Manilla folder keeps very very well. I punch a hole in it with the paper punch, and hang it up using one of those "key rings"..the kind you can open apart, and close back up.
JustSewSimple
Tissue paper is a pita. Use Golgen Threads it is much better. The problem is that when you use tissue paper it is hard to get off. It comes off in dime size pieces a bit at the time. Glolden Threads will come off in hunks. I like hunks.
Liam
Has anyone used Dissolve 4x from Superior? Or is the stuff from Golden Threads better?
