Bonnie in Ok
I had a power surge and the machine is plugged into a surge protector but now my machine won't run and when I turn it on all it does is make a humming sound like sonething is turning inside. Checked the fuse but it looks fine. any suggestions?

witha'K'quilting
Is the needle down or up while the machine is humming along? Can you turn the flywheel a bit to see if it starts behaving properly? witha'K'quilting
Is it possible that the fuse looks good...but isn't. Know what I mean? It may be broken...but not look like it. Maybe change it and see what happens.
Bonnie in Ok
ok will try that and the fly wheel moves fine (could be the only way I will quilt tonight and that is kind of the slow way)
witha'K'quilting
that wouldn't be any fun!

witha'K'quilting
Also, could the surge protector have blown a fuse? You might try plugging the machine into a new surge protector. It may be allowing power through to your Millie...but not full power that it needs.
witha'K'quilting
If this doesn't help...try plugging the surge protector into a new outlet in the wall.
Bonnie in Ok
we checked all of that and it's not the surge protector. I sent an email to APQS but I don't know if they reply all hours or do they just reply during working hours?
witha'K'quilting
Bummer. I was hoping it was something simple like this. Hopefully someone else will jump in. Until then...try humming along...it might make you feel better!
Bonnie in Ok
looks like the thread cutter is just spinning and that is what makes the noise. Any ideas?
witha'K'quilting
Turn off the machine. Wait for a few minutes, then turn it back on. Hopefully this resets everything. I wonder too if a thread could be caught in the thread cutter not allowing to come back to its resting position. Can you see anything in there? Bonnie in Ok
I think it is fixed I moved the cutter manually back to it's orginal position and checked for threads there was one. I guess it is very sensitive to those things. Thanks for helping out. Hopefully it will be okay I could run the machine with out thread in it and it stopped the humming. Neher-in-law5
Be sure to check with APQS again tomorrow (although they should call back quickly). Last year my George kept blowing fuses and I hadn't had much time to even use him. I ended up taking him to Iowa and they found a short in some inside wires, including one in the pedal. It only took an hour or two in the shop and I could take him home. It was also still under warrenty, so the price was right too. Of course, there was the 3 hour drive down, the stay at my sister's and the two quilt shops we stopped and spent money at! Some things are just worth it.
