lcquilting
I have a Kenmore DMS that is an "oldie but goodie" I piece a little but mainly use it to baste my backers onto my zippered leaders.... Here's my question... I would like a 1/4" presser foot on my machine..I took it to a local dealer to service it and he said that Kenmores aren't able to accomodate that type of foot.....of course he could SELL me a machine that would come with it...you know that type of thing. He is a very pushy sales rep./repair guy and I HATE going in there. Anyway... Can anyone tell me if a Kenmore can indeed accomadate a 1/4" presser foot? I think he's blowwing smoke.... (in case your not sure of what I'm talking about..I want a little foot that has a guide on it so the fabric can't go past it...helping you acheive a 1/4" seam....) I can provide model #'s etc. if anyone has more knowledge about this issue...
Nadia Wilson
Michelle, You can stick a piece of the soft side of sticky back velcro to the throat plate of your machine 1/4" from the needle and voila! you have an accurate 1/4" seam! The velcro is high enough and stable so the fabric glides through evenly. You still use your regular foot....no need to buy a different foot. ReisingStarQuilts
I use the soft foam weather stripping that goes around windows. cut a piece and put it down for a guide. as it wears out add more weather stripping. Use it when I teach kids to sew after school.
Sheri Butler
Hold on Michelle... This place in Lincoln will get almost ANY foot for ANY machine! Call and ask them about it!!!!! The guy and gal who own the shop are awsome!!! Just tell them your make/model of machine, and that you want a 1/4" seam guide foot for your machine. http://www.huskersewvac.com/page/page/2955987.htm

quiltingjoyful51
Some machine's have the feed dogs that are too wide to accomidate the 1/4 inch foot without chewing up the fabric edges. You may be able to buy a foot but it might not do the best job for you.
KathG
One tip I have used in the past and works really well is a small wad of post it notes a bit less than a 1/2 in stack. Stuck to the bed at the 1/4" mark. Then when you are piecing, you can butt the edges of the fabric against the post it notes. Also very easy to move when you dont need them. Stagecl
Masking tape built up will work too.
Linda G. Craig
Moleskin sold in the foot aid depart in most drugs stores. The spongy kind works great too.
Bonnie
Yes all works well, but you should be able to find the correct after market foot. Several catalog places. Like Nancy's Notions have feet for odd machines. I would check these out as well.
