GrandmaLKB
I just got a TOWA bobbin guage, but a little confused. I thought I read on a post where she kept her tension around 20.....the guage has numbers from 0.......100....200...300, etc. HELP? The directions that came with the guage weren't very clear and after I got past the Chinese version and found the English version, it still didn't help a lot. ffq-lar
Hi Linda--just remove the last zero. Older gauges were marked 10-15-20. Newer ones are 100-150-200. My sweet spot for bobbin tension is around 18 (180 for you) It is just a number that relates to the force required to pull the thread out of the case and around the two posts. For different combos of thread there are different numbers--but usually between 15 and 20. When you find good numbers for a certain combo, write it down for future reference. AnnHenry
There seem to be more than one Towa Gauge out there. The best thing is to just thread the thing according to the pictures, and then experiment. King Tut works best for me at 350-400.
GrandmaLKB
Ann, are you talking about using KT in the bobbin for that# ? I ordered a thread guage too. Not sure if it will help much, but thought if I could get a number to go by and WRITE IT DOWN, then each time I change threads, it will be less time consuming playing around and testing. LinneaMarie
I think it was Dawn Cavanaugh who suggested more than one bobbin case. Set each one for a different thread and keep them in separate marked baggies. That way you won't have to fiddle with the bobbin tension every time you use a different thread. meg
yes - i do a different bobbin case for different threads. i have so much trouble getting it right since i am majorly tension challenged - i never want to have to do it more than once! ffq-lar
I just used Tut in the bobbin and ran it at 13 on my gauge. At 35-40 the thread wouldn't budge! Check for your own personal numbers and write them down.
juliagraves
I run Bottom Line in the bobbin and I like mine set around 14 (140) with Rainbow on top. Rainbow likes the top tension very loose. So Fine and King Tut prefer a tighter top tension. 35-40 is incredibly tight, no matter what thread. Julia
