Lib
Has anyone ever got the lead pencil transfer to the quilt when quilting over a design? I quilted all along one border, removed the paper, and there is the lead pencil design on my quilt! Can anyone tell me how to get rid of it? Quilting Heidi
Lib, I don't usually use pencil, instead I use permanent pen. Have you tried a fabric eraser? I'd start there. The other option is to try Sew Clean sold by Pam Clark.
annaquilts
I really like the spray Pam Clark sells . It's called Sew Clean. Here's the link. http://homestitches.com/supplies.html
RoseCity Quilter
Yep, had that happen, nothing I tryed took it out. That was several years ago. Now I use a permanent pen.
JustSewSimple
Yes, as it turns out, my students have had this happen. Also, I sometimes use a permanent marker. I haven't had transfer - ever - but once again, my students had transfer. Don't know why. Never got it out.
Stagecl
I've had permanent marker transfer from the heat of the needle. I think using something washable would be better, such as a crayola washable marker.
Lib
What would I ever do without all you super people. I shall try the fabric eraser and if that doesn't work the Sew Clean. Lib
lisalnewman
I like sew clean from Pam Clarke but there is also a product from Quilter's Rule specifically ment for removing pencil marks. Here is a link for the product: http://www.quiltersrule.com/marking/mpr.html I haven't tried it but was looking at it at their booth at MQX. Might be an option if the other product do not work. Good luck, Lisa:)
KathyA
I use white chalk on tissue paper and you can see it even on white fabric. works like a dream and you don't have to worry about transfer - unless of course you are printing off your printer then guess this chalk doesn't work... Ferret
Yes, I now mark onto wash away stabiliser which is much less prone to doing this. Good luck getting the pencil out. Ferret
AnnHenry
I cut this out from somewhere: "To remove pencil marks, according to the August issue [what year?] of Lady's Circle Patchwork Quilts, suggest the following: Make a solution that is one part water, three parts rubbing alcohol, and one or two drops of Palmolive or Joy dishwashing liquid. Do not use Dawn--it may bleach out the fabric. Use a cotton swab to apply and gently scrub with a soft toothbrush. Wipe dry with a cloth. Test first before applying to your whole quilt. (I printed this from the Quiltaholics-Quilting Tips site.) " I haven't tried it.
