Kay Anderson
How do you charge for peicing? I was considering charging the same for the peicing as I do for custom quilting, by the square inch of the finished size. Does this seem a fair price to you ladies? Liam
Kay if you don't mind a male quilter's two cents; I charge by the hour for piecing. But I do know a few quilter's that charge by the square inch. I would say charge what you think is fair for your time.
quiltlover03
I recently had a New York beauty pieced and the lady charged me 2.5 cents per square inch. I thought that really fair, she also used my fabrics and pattern. The blocks turned out beautiful, well worth the money.
Sandra Darlington
I would charge by the hour.
Kay Anderson
Thanks for your input. I think I'll charge by the sq. inch. I'm handicapped and take a lot of breaks, might not be fair to charge by the hour and would be a pain to keep up with the time.
LFQuilts
Kay, I know you've made your mind up, but check out the posts on this thread: http://www.apqs.com/quiltboard/viewthread.php?tid=21456 It might help you decide what to charge per square inch. Note, one of the folks who posted charges by the square yard. Lynn
Primitive1
I occasionally do piecing and then quilting for a customer and I charge her $30.00 per hour for the piecing.
SandraG
I charge by the square foot for a quilt start to finish. I use Cindy Roth's formula. She has an excellent article on pricing on her website www.longarmuniversity.com. It is worth the read just for general information. bobbi
When I design, piece and quilt a quilt for someone, I charge $20/hr. for the designing and piecing. I charge regular longarm prices to quilt... I always give them the complete invoice along with any "discount" I may have decided to give them... That way they know how much I really have in the quilt... Most queen size quilts come out to around $2000 to $2500. That's not always what I charge, but they need to know exactly how much of a "deal" I've given!
