shellyf
I understand that during the quilting process that the top shrinks up. I'm wanting to know what a 'normal' amount would be. It started out 75x135. I measured when I got it done and it ended up 72x 124. I used a lofty poly. Probably my first mistake.
LadyLake
The average shrinkage I see for Hobbs 80/20 is about 1 to 1-1/2" from quilting and less for Quilters Dream Cotton Select. It also depends upon how good you are about pulling the batting straight out from under the top and backing fabric after you advance the quilt each time. If I am worried about not having enough batting, I make sure and pull the batting taut after each fabric advance. But I think you get better texture/definition if you don't pull it. Quilting Heidi
Shrinkage will depend on batting thickness and quilting density. I'd say about 3 - 5% is average.
Sandra Darlington
With the title of this post, I thought we were having a discussion about a particular Seinfeld episode. :P:P

Guest Linda S
I thought it was the Seinfeld episode too! I think you've got about average shrinkage horizontally, but that's a lot of shrinkage vertically. Did you float the top, or did you attach it to the quilt roller? shellyf
I had thought about putting a disclaimer on the title....lesson learned. I am a full floating gal. I did straighten and pull things with each advance. It's quilted with a big double sprial design. Loose to medium quilting I'd say.
