An idea for a log cabin is to follow the colours - as in a spine of feathers or leaves thru the lights and something geometric in the dark. Does that make sense? Hope you stay around.. My suggestions are circles, half circles. arcs.etc. Gee, I wonder how curved cross hatch would look. Will go draw it out.
