mscott2611
Is it possible to piece a quilt top with Batik and Cotton Material and it work out ok? I have a customer who is asking me this question and I am not able to answer them. I have never mixed the two and do not know. Can anyone tell me anything about this? What are the pros and cons? ffq-lar
Why not? I would match thread weight and needle size to the fussiest fabric--which would be the batik. Thin thread and a 3.5 needle will nicely quilt both fabrics. Use a batting with some puff to it to help hide any tension issues and go for it. Try wool, poly, or a nice poly/cotton blend batting.
Gretchen
I have never done it myself but so admire Edita Sitar's of Laundry Basket Quilts. She sure has an eye for mixing fabrics.

Quilting Heidi
I do it a lot and haven't ever had issues. I hate when people come up with rules. LOL if it works I go for it.
Daisy2018
I mix them often but there is one thing to watch out for. Batiks are notorious for bleeding, so make sure ahead of time, especially if you go for lots of contrast, also they don't shrink all the same amount, I 'd really recommend washing and testing for colorfast.... Sandra Darlington
I've quilted a number that were mixed and it wasn't a problem. I like the suggestion of pre-washing and drying the fabrics first, as some may bleed and they will shrink at different rates, too.
