You are sooo funny. Didn't know you were planning a trip to S.F. Britex was my moms favorite fabric store....but she sewed clothing. Yes they have cottons....but that is not their strength. I buy velvets and linens there. And the best part is the top floor full of notions with walls of buttons!! If you are headed for the bay area you might want to go to Thimblecreek in Walnut Creek, Color patch in Castro Valley, The Granary in Sunnyvale, Always Quilting in San Mateo or Pumpkin Seed in San Rafael. Or go further north to Chico and visit my favorite Honey Run

and, ThimbleCreek is now in Concord.........

If you let us know where you will actually be going, we will be able to direct you to all kinds of great places right within the area....

The SF Bay Area is chock full of wonderful quilt stores.

BTW - Britex is a must visit whether they have quilt fabric or not. It is a marvelous place to wander in......

Britex Fabrics is a textile candy store! I used to work in the city and would walk over there at lunch sometimes just to get a sensory rush. Not much cotton quilting fabric, but beautiful silks, and just about anything else.

We have lots of great quilting stores in addition to the stores mentioned above are my three favorites: Cotton Patch in Lafayette - lots of flannels (like Honey Run in Chico), The Quilter's Inn in Danville, and Main Street Quilts in Martinez - now, talk about candy store for Quilters - Susie (not me)has an incredible inventory, carries wide backs, and always has Michael Miller's JET BLACK in stock.

If you happen to come out for PIQF in October, send me a note. Many of the ladies in our local longarm group like to make the trek together. We would love for you - any of you to join us!

I've been to Britex, too, and least I think it is the same store everyone is talking about here. It was multi-stories high with an elevator to take you up and down. There was a Sammy Davis Jr. look-alike that escorted me up the elevator to a particular notions sections that I would have needed a road map to find. Wow, what a store. They also had beautiful wool (for garments), but it was shockingly expensive! Anyway, I was so entertained by the staff and other shoppers that I didn't buy anything. I was kinda numb looking at all the fabrics, patterns, notions, etc.
