Jeannine
Just a few little things I've been creating with Halloween right around the corner. Sometimes I just need a rest from big things and the small projects are quick and so rewarding. When my grandson was born almost 15 years ago, my best friend, who is 8 years older than me, was longing for grandchildren, so I told her we could share our grandkids. Now she has 7 and I still only have the one. It's great fun though, because I get to make all kinds of things for her grandchildren as well as my own. I also have to make 2 of everything I make for myself as she always wants what I make. Attaching some pics of sweatshirt jackets I made for her two granddughters and the quilt I just finished for the newest grandson, a firecracker born on the fourth of July this year. I have posted more views on webshots, if you want to take a look at close ups. Don't have any fancy gaudets to quilt with, just free hand. http://community.webshots.com/album/560231182XYiwdh?start=

chickenscratch
Very cute. I've been wanting to make some of those little jackets out of sweatshirts. Any suggestoins for a good pattern or book on the subject?

ramona-quilter
Jeannine, I love those little sweatshirts. I think that I might like one of those for myself. I don't see the firecracker quilt here on the forum. I'll check your webshots when I get home. You are blessed to have such a wonderful friend. Jeannine
Teresa, The website I like is Ericas.com it has lots of ideas and patterns for sweatshirt makeovers but the idea for those jackets came from a picture I saw on http://www.countryinthecity.net I just used the idea to create my jackets. I'm going to try and put the pic of the quilt on this forum, but if I don't have any luck Linda, you can go to webshots. Yes I am lucky to have such a great friend. Besides my husband and my kids, she's my rock. She's always there when I need her.
Sandra Darlington
Hi, Those sweatshirt jackets are adorable, and so is the quilt. I bought a pattern at the Harrisburg, PA quilt show this fall to make one for my (14month old) granddaughter, although I haven't purchased the sweatshirt yet. The pattern is called "Holiday Pet Pocket Jackets." It is by "Mary's Patterns." The website is: www.maryspatterns.com The 3 sweatshirt jackets on the picture are for a rabbit (for Easter), a black cat (Halloween) and a dog (for Christmas). They all start with a pullover sweatshirt which at some point is cut down the front center and finished. The rest would be appliques to be sewn on. Any applique would work, but the 3 given are very cute. I hope this helps whoever is looking for an example. Sandy
Jeannine
Here are a couple more websites that carry makeover sweatshirt patterns http://www.hearttohandpatterns.com http://www.quiltingconnect.com/wearables.htm http://www.fabulousfibers.com Still my favorite is ericas.com. They carry patterns from Serendipity Gifts which also gives you directions on how to make a more fitted look instead of just the boxy sweatshirtshirt look. Some are so dressy you can't even tell they are sweatshirts. Thanks for the comments, they were fun to make.
chickenscratch
Thanks for all the links. I'm going to look at those patterns. I really like your quilt. So bright and colorful. The swirls on it work just right with those wonky boxes. Good job.
