RitaR
I love feathers, I\'m learning to do them.. some I like, some I don\'t, both on the sewing and seeing.. \' I have a question and am sure it is going to be a matter of terms.. the answer that is.. that we both understand. My question is this, What is the difference in an "ïnformal" feather, and a "formal"feather? RitaR
michaelalan
I\'ve always thought of formal feathers as those that repeat, or are from a pattern, panto or stencil..... I consider my freehand feathers informal because they are all one-of-a-kind, not the mirror image style,
gable428
I thought formal feathers were when part of the feather is stitched over again and informal is when there is no touching of the feathers, they are all separate from each other. Does that make sense? Sorry if I didn\'t explain it very well.
michaelalan
sounds good to me, it\'s sorta the way I think of it, I still consider pantos and repeaters as formal feathers, on this web shot site there are some examples. http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/photo/2739231980028393189ZoglXO Hope this helps.. Quilting Heidi
Rita, I thought formal feathers were ones that were from a stencil and exactly alike. Informal have a dance all their own. Either way I love them. Heidi
RitaR
Thank you very much.. That does explain it and I\'ve just as "duthcy" brain as a tongue so knew what you meant, gable. Michaelalan and Heidi.. thank you.. seeing the feathers in that way.. helps understand that.. as well as the visual tips on feathers 101 as to the reference lines.. really makes sense.. So freehand is informal.. panto, stencil etc.. anything that is (ahem) exact, over and over.. is formal.. yes, it makes sense. Thank you all, very much.! ffq-lar
Formal feathers march--but beautifully!! Precise, exact, and symmetrical. Informal feathers dance!!!
