annettequilts
What kind/brand/wt of thread should I use if I want something that has a sheen is not real thin - I want it to show up - but is not a metallic? I have some Aurifil 40 wt that I think is for an embroidery machine... I have used it before and I want a heavier - thicker - look but I like that sheen! Any suggestions? It is for this quilt pictured below THANK YOU!

Quilting Heidi
Annette, How about Superiors Rainbow thread, it has a sheen and is a little more showy. Sand Castle looks like it might have the mix of white and tans that would work well, although it may be too light on the diamonds, you might want to use something like a mothergoose color in that area. sewlinzi
Isalon (my favourite - German - used by Jamie Wallen 40wt but heavier than Rainbows), King Star (Japanese 40wt) and Superior Lava 30wt or various other Superior Polys! Lsilver
Superior Brytes is wonderful to work with. Also, their new Lava thread is great. Both have a sheen and are heavier than Rainbows. Lovely quilt!
ffq-lar
Rheingold has a lot of metallic threads. I have three different golds--yellow, coppery, and a darker bronze-y color. My Millie loves this thread. I use the black and white a lot also. Columbia River carries this line.
TracyeQ
Rainbows is my all time favorite, but there are some listed here that I haven\'t tried that sound cool too!
Guest Linda S
If you want a wonderful, strong, but very inexpensive thread, I recommend Arc by Melco. A 5000 meter cone is about $6. It is a 40wt thread, very strong, has a sheen to it (it\'s made for those big embroidery machines) and comes in just about any color you could want (I think there are about 200). Contact Nicholas Reinking, nickreinking@yahoo.com. He\'ll get you all set up. I generally use Superior threads for everything, but when I want something a bit shiny and bold, I use Arc Poly. Guest Linda S
You can get an actual thread color card from them. I use mine a lot. Linda
annettequilts
Linda- thank you. I looked for that on the site and didn\'t see it (maybe because it was late at night and I was drooling over all those luscious colors) I\'m going to see if I can get a hold of one right now!
