seakitten
A few days ago someone mentioned the "Dainty Ditcher" (I think) for SID. I can\'t find the post. Who makes this & does it really help?
Quilting Heidi
I got mine from Columbia River. Here is the link. http://columbiariverquilting.com/deluxe_dainty_ditcher.html
doodlebug
i have (and prefer) Meagan Best\'s dainty ditcher. it has to little pokies that line up with the seam and an offset for the foot of the machine. it takes the guess work out of "eyeballing" a 1/4" http://columbiariverquilting.com/templates___guides.html they have a pic of it in use as well. hope this helps. seakitten
I am looking for something to keep it in the "ditch" around appliques. Any opinion as to which is best for that? Thanks.
Myrna Ficken
When going around applique I put on my base expander and my Micro-drive. Turn SR off and set my machine to a slow speed, I guide the machine with the right MD handle, flip up the left handle and use my left hand and fingers to manipulate the fabric close to the hopping to keep my stitch line right at the edge of the applique. This works well for me. Myrna
KathyA
I use the dainty ditcher for SID work and love it. Can\'t work without it. Myrna - thanks for the tip. I have found going around applique challenging, I\'ll turn off the SR and slow down on the next one I do.
seakitten
Thanks Myrna. I am still pretty much a beginner, don\'t have the confidence to turn off the SR yet, but that is something you can teach me; I think I will want to set up a class with you when I come over this summer. How far in advance to you need to schedule?
quiltmonkey
OK so to sum it up for comparison purposes... I understand that: 1) Per Myrna, for going around applique, turn the speed WAY DOWN with the SR turned OFF. 2) Per Sherry Rogers, for doing Stitch In Ditch, turn the speed WAY UP with the SR turned ON. Do I got it right???
SherryRogers
Hi Catherine It is I who makes the Dainty Ditcher and the Deluxe Dainty Ditcher. You can order from my website http://www.sewfarsewgood.org, Columbia River Quilting or Longarm Supplies in Canada. It is handy as a pocket! SherryRogers
Almost, you just forgot to make the stitches as small as possible on the SR. quiltmonkey
Thanks Sherry. OK that\'s what I meant to say... turn the SR to highest number (WAY UP) so the stitches are smallest.
