witha'K'quilting
Just curious. My bobbin assembly sounds "tinny". Almost as if something is loose. The machine sews fine, other than breaking threads now and then. I use Bottomline both top and bottom. Is the bobbin assembly supposed to have "play" in it? Any ideas?!? JustSewSimple
Mine does that sometimes too. I always stop and oil the bobbin area when the sound starts. I have no idea if that helps but it makes me feel better. My stitches are always perfect though. I'd love to know the answer if anyone knows. bonbon
Mine does the same thing.......is this normal? I'm faithful about cleaning and oiling. Bonnie
Guest mark
The hook assembly will normally have a little side to side play and that can sound rattley. As long as you are getting good stitches and you oil and clean normally, I would not worry about it. You guys know your machines and the sounds they make! If the sound changes or it starts to gives you problems with the stitches, be sure to call in and speak to Amy or Christy! Take care,
John Mitchell
To add to Mark's great reply. Most every time I hear of a problem with a rattle in the hook assembly it needs to be correctly oiled. John
njquiltergirl
I oil according to the manual, after a through cleaning, a drop on the "shelf". Others have posted about oiling from above...sort of under the needleplate. Any comments Mark or John?? Should we do that also? Thanks to you techy experts! Guest mark
Either way is fine Lisa. If you have the needle plate off for cleaning, then it is pretty easy to oil from above. If you are doing it as the manual says you should be fine. Later,
witha'K'quilting
Thanks Mark. I do oil and clean as per the manual, and the stitches are great. I won't worry so much now.
quiltmonkey
Kristina, do you have a spare (new) bobbin case? Try that! I did and my rattling sound went away. I think my other (old) bobbin case got dropped on the floor one too many times and got tweeked...
witha'K'quilting
Great idea. I do have a spare bobbin case. I think may have been on the floor at least one too many times before. I will try it and post if it helps. Thanks Shana, I knew you would have something to share with this post.
Bonnie
Kristina, I have this also, but its only when the bobbin is getting empty and as it gets emptier (is that a word) it starts to rattle a bit....so when I hear that I know its time to start looking for a full bobbin. Not all the bobbins do that, but I noticed it more with the last batch I bought from King's Men.....
Quilting Heidi
Bonnie mine does the same thing! It is low bobbin signal! Now I just need to learn to stop ignoring it!
njquiltergirl
Thanks, Mark. It has worked so far! Lisa
John Mitchell
You don't put the oil on the shelf. It has to be in the groove that the hook assembly and the bobbin basket rotate in. It is best to oil from above. on the little raised area that fits into the bobbin basket groove. This groove is easy to see from the top. This is where the metal meets the metal and it needs oil. njquiltergirl
John, Thank you so much for the clear description of where the oil goes. I never really got the little shelf part...just seemed odd to me. I'll print out your post and follow it today. Thanks for adding to the life of my machine! I appreciate your taking the time to detail this out. With you and Mark on our side, we should never have a problem!! Lisa
