Boni
My friend Christine Ann works at a French bakery in Portland. She came to visit and brought some bread to show me some fancy cuts. I was thinking of hot soup and bread for the Moxie meeting in October???

nora123
I love that idea!!. I can make the soup or soups?. I'm taking orders for the two soups you all like. The ones that get the most votes are the ones I will make. Nora Millennium Washougal WA
Boni
One of my favorites is Black Bean with Polish Kilbasa Sausage! However, I really like white chili too. And yet, I really like just plain old split pea with smoked ham. I guess I'm hopeless--Soup is a big item in this household all year round. I make Mung Dal too! Better not count my vote---I'll just bring the breads!
Bekah
Nora let me know if you need help with the soup. I pretty much like any kind of soup. How about a big pot of chili
dbz98236
Oh Boni, I love split pea and white chilli, although if it is as cold on the meeting day as it is today, any kind of soup would be good. Nora, Let me know how I can help.

Quilting Heidi
What is Mung Dal soup? I love soup and bread but only in the winter. My favorite right now is Taco soup. Yummy and healthy!
Boni
It's like a yellow lentil but is sort of a garbanzo, and flavored with curry. Watch this http://showmethecurry.com/daalsbeans/mung-daal-recipe.html

Primitive1
Ha Ha, Thanks Boni, yes you did make me look! All of this food sounds yummmy and since it is raining here today, I think some soup and bread would be a great idea! Can't wait for fall to get here! Thanks, Vicki
Quilting Heidi
Boni the Mung Dal soup sounds interesting but I doubt hubby would like it. He isn't a big fan of curry. I decided to make taco soup for dinner. Almost done!
AnnHenry
It was driving me crazy how they were able to do those clean cuts with fresh bread, but I figured it out! They used three different loaves of bread cut three different ways, and then moved the pieces around!
Boni
AnnHenry :D:D Next time my friend comes I'll have her show me again and I'll do a sequence photo collage. I was so busy that day, I didn't take time to practice, the loaves are wrapped and in the freezer or else I'd get them out and lay it out. She started with a diagonal cut, then turned the knife and did two more cuts from the opposite direction, then alternated down the loaf like a braid. I wasn't there when she cut the squares in the middle and I wasn't there when she cut the second loaf. She just left them for me already cut. It was day old bread and very heavy, that's why it was easy to cut. I suppose fresh baked and lighter texture would be a challenge. Also, the knife she used had a very sharp tip to be able to cut into the loaf. She used objects like knives and such to prop up the cuts so they wouldn't just fall apart before the picture. Normally she doesn't cut all the way through, but leaves it still attached at the bottom so it holds together until served. You drizzle butter, maybe with garlic, all over the cut slices, wrap in foil, and heat in the oven. Serve with hot soup or stew. yum
AnnHenry
I stand corrected! Thanks for the info. It must be a VERY sharp knife.
