carmen
I have a quilt that has an 8" border and I believe it would look better with swag/scallop. My question to you is,. What template or tool do you use to make swags? and where can I get it. Thank You, Carmen
Quilting Heidi
Carmen, You can make your own scallop template. Make a paper copy of the border, fold in half, in half again, and again until you get the swag to a width you like. Then use a plate or circle to draw the shape of your scallop and trim. Now unfold and pin that to your quilt and mark. I like to mark the diagonal lines of the border and do a use the same circle to cut the corner. Hope that makes sense. sspingler
I like the swag templates from gadgetgirls.com
carmen
Hi Heidi, Yes it makes sense to me. But this is for a top that I have to quilt. I did find the swag rulers at Columbia River Quilting. Will use your idea in one of my quilts, Thanks again. Sharon, for some reason I can't get to the gadetgirls website:( Thank You for your help Carmen
Quilting Heidi
Carmen, I assumed that you wanted to cut a scallop border in which case I would mark and cut after it was quilted. If you want a great way to do swags you should look into getting the quiltazoid or econozoid and Adam just developed a very cool swag template. LeeAnn
I bought the No Frills swag template and I think it works great! There are you tube videos showing how it works. http://www.kmquiltingsupply.com/Parts/NoFrills.asp
Guest Linda S
I use the swag ruler from Tracey Browning at Constantine Quilts. You can get her rulers at Kingsmen or Columbia River Quilting. Linda
carmen
Thank You, I will order the swag template from Columbia River today. Heidi, I have to sell my Circle Lord before I get the quilttazoid. Is it easy to use? I find the Circle Lord cumbersome and the add ons way to expensive, for the times I have used them. Three times. It was not a wise choice. Ladies, Thanks again Carmen
Quilting Heidi
Carmen, Yes the Quiltazoid is very easy to use. Adam has a great DVD that you can request and you will see step by step how it works. You might want to consider keeping any CL template boards as Adam can tell you how to attach those to the QZ as well.
lym95
so.....does this mean the templates from the QZ could be used on the CL? specifically the swag template?
witha'K'quilting
Marjorie...I am not sure if the QZ templates work on the CL...but certainly the CL works on the QZ! You would have to direct that question to Michael, Carol or MaryBeth.
mrsbishwit
Marjorie, another option is to contact Michael and see if he would be willing to come up with a CL swag template. He is always open to sugestions, and I think a swag template for the CL would be a nice addition, I bet it would be very popular too with other CL owners. Quilting Heidi
Marjorie, I'm not sure. This template is thicker than any of the CL template because it is double sided. Very unique. I have no idea how you attach your templates to the CL front thingy but I'd bet Mr. Marjorie is handy enough to figure out a way to attach it. I just don't know how the CL arm would work with this board. You would have to adjust the depth of your stylus since it is about 1/4" higher than a normal board. lym95
The depth would be no problem, because the stylus simply floats to the height of the groove, which sometimes is a problem on my millie table, because the lexan seems to be a bit bowed. :( Thanks for your answers, I might have to buy it and try it, don't know of anyone close that has a QZ to borrow it. Quilting Heidi
Marjorie, Since this is a double thick board I'll bet you won't have a problem with the stylus.
