flygirlTRE
Before Christmas I put out a request for long armers in the Lehigh Valley who would rent their machine to me. Through that post I was conneted to the person who purchased the machine I used to work on before it was sold. Kloar allowed me to come to her home and use her machine simply in exchange for some information about longarming. I feel like she got the short end of the deal by far, but it was a huge blessing for me to be able to quilt this quilt for my parents for Christmas and in the process I was able to show Kloar how I went about quilting a quilt, how to use a ruler, and how I do feathers (the Karen McTavish way). I was definitely rusty as I had not used the long arm since last winter. I thought I would share pictures of the finished product. My parents were very excited to receive this gift as they are very frugal and keep their heat at 65 degrees during the winter. Doesn't seem to bother my mom and her hot flashes, but my poor dad will definitely benefit from the extra warmth at night. <table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/e82dCjZQhS-RRPfUV0k0Rg?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_TcT-ehAJ6OI/TSR2h5CbAmI/AAAAAAAAHwU/g9AtSv6w5tE/s400/IMG_0315.JPG" height="299" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/flygirlTRE/20110101?feat=embedwebsite">2011-01-01</a></td></tr></table> <table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/Ag7pg7cVzXI3moji5JVBow?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_TcT-ehAJ6OI/TSR2bfCBNnI/AAAAAAAAHwQ/vW0jCjzvD1A/s400/IMG_0314.JPG" height="299" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/flygirlTRE/20110101?feat=embedwebsite">2011-01-01</a></td></tr></table>

shelleywa
What a lovely quilt- your parents must be delighted! The combination of the feathers and grid are great! Glad you managed to find a machine again...also nice that you can share your expertise with the new owner!
flygirlTRE
The grid was tedious!!! We kept joking that I should have just stippled that area! I probably would have cut an hour of quilting time off had I done that.

kloar
I just have to comment that I got the best "deal" of that day. I learned a lot and am so thankful! I am now doing ruler work and as soon as I finish piecing the top I am working on will be be doing the featherwork in the quilting. The best thing that happened was when she asked me why my stitches were so small. I thought they should be bigger when the stitch regulator was on but I didn't know any better since this was a new machine for me. After talking with APQS about whether there was a problem with the stitch regulator, I found out that electric power sources can be different from one location to another. So when it came to my house, the settings weren't right for my home. After Amy (who is such a pleasure to work with!) talked me through it, we recalibrated the stitch regulator and now that is working the way it should be. Although I got the machine last April, I am just now using it daily and looking to do more freehand. (I travel a lot between April and October so I wasn't using it much.) Yeah! I have a working stitch regulator! Makes life a lot easier since it was sorta stuck at 13/14.
