Butterfly
I want to use two battings for a wholecloth quilt, but have never done that before. I know I want to use QD wool on top but I'm not sure what is best for the bottom, QD cotton select or poly. I'm concerned about uneven shrinking, or is that even an issue? Oma
The biggest problem I ever seem to have when using two battings is making sure the bottom one stays very flat and there are no little folds stitched in.
LibbyG
Heidi told me to use QD select.
MastiffMomQlt
I've done it with Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 on the bottom & Hobbs wool on top. I was pleased with the end results Good luck & looking forward to seeing your project. You do such beautiful work
RoseCity Quilter
I do this frequently and love the effect. I like Hobbs washable wool and Hobbs 80/20. Like Oma I notice it is easy to get little wrinkles in the bottom batting. Just watch it carefully....
CindyT
Oh my...I used wool and cotton battings together for the 1st time on my own wall hanging, and after I took it off the frame, it hangs "funky". I am, when I get time, going to try blocking the quilt (another 1st for me) because I was told that would "fix" it to hang correctly. Now I'm wondering if I got wrinkles in the bottom batting to create that and if blocking it will really fix it. Yikes! Thanks for posting this ? Jess. Myrna Ficken
Jess, I usually use 2 layers of Hobbs 80/20 I have used a layer of Matilda Own Wool with a layer of Tuscon silk on top it was WONDERFUL..... don't use a layer of wool and QD poly, not a good combo
LynnQuilts
I just finished a quilt with QD wool on top and QD Cotton Request (the thinnest cotton) on the bottom. I didn't want it to be any thicker than it had to be. I liked the look of it and it hung very flat and straight.
quilted charm
Jess, I've not completed my whole cloth quilt yet, but Karen McTavish says to use QD poly select as the bottom layer, because it won't stretch when you hang it.
luv2kwilt
I try to use a poly or something with a scrim for the bottom. I have used HObbs 80/20 on the bottom and liked the affect as well. I have also used two layers of 80/20, but must admit I wasn't as happy as when I had wool or Hobbs poly down on the top, but it could be that I did smaller (more dense) quilting so it didn't seem to make my feathers pop as much. Good luck, you'll love the affect. Luv2Kwilt
