HELP!!! MQS ? IQ?

Recommended Posts

I posted this question to the IQ forum & didn't get one reply, although I did receive an e-mail from someone near me who Might be willing to go with. So I'm hoping you all will give me some feedback. I always come here when I really need an answer.

I've had my IQ since April. I worked with Jessica Schick on one custom quilt on her machine. I've watched a lot of the tutorials and took one class with Crystal Smyth. Assuming I am able to work things out in finding someone to go with me here are my questions.

1. Would you recommend taking the Boot Camp or fitting in as many of the other classes as possible?

2. Is this something that would be really beneficial at this time? I really am not getting that much business right now. Therefore I am trying to do some things of my own with the hope of selling them. (honoring copyrights). I want to go beyond E2E and have a general understanding of placing motifs in blocks. I can edit designs and combine them but haven't worked with echo and only have a little experience with line.

3. If it's something I really should take advantage of at this time, how soon do I have to register for classes to be assured of a place?

I'm hoping some of you could chime in with feedback on creating more business and how much training is necessary at this stage with IQ. I am a computer nerd wannabe and am in love with IQ, but I really need to make this business pay off. DH is very involved with the business and we plan to use it as something to do when he retires from farming. But we need to make enough $ so the business starts making enough to pay off it's loans instead od taking $ from farming income.

Cheryl,

I don't not have a computer assisted machine, so I cannot address those issues. But I can say that I would take any classes I could to increase your knowledge of machine quilting in general and your computer program specifically Every class I have taken has moved me forward in my personal quilting. My friends and I laugh, because always you learn that one piece of information that was " worth the price of admission! " Good Luck!

Hi Cheryl - I won't be going to MQS, but I did just go to MQX West and I took five IQ classes. My max was two a day. It was almost too much, but since I took a couple of classes with Crystal, and her handouts are so very detailed, it ended up being good. Of course, I'm a computer geek, so taking little bits of motifs and playing with them to form other shapes is really fun for me. All of the teachers were very good. Helen is, of course, a fabulous teacher. Cristyn has more of a relaxed style, but she gives you some good information too. I took Line Pattern Magic, Borders, Creative Custom, Wholecloth, and Quilting for Show. They were all great except I think I would have eliminated the last one. It was very like the regular quilting for show classes I've taken and not really all that geared to the IQ.

I think it is a good idea to get yourself some things made and get them out for people to see. The quality of your work generally is what will bring people to your door.

Hi Cheryl, I haven't been on here for a few days. If you're talking about Shirley Higginbotham's Bootcamp, it's worth the money even if you've had the IQ for a while. We did "hands-on" training. Everyone learns differently, but I didn't get anything from the classes I took at MQX East a few years ago. The classes were crowded and the teachers moved fairly fast because the majority of the students had their IQ for years. However, Helen's classes were a little slower then the others so I got a few bits and pieces. Have you done the "boosters", they are a great tool. Helen and

Shirley's you tube videos are also great. Feel free to call me or U2U anytime. I work during the day and am on EST.

Had a dream last night that my husband bought me an IQ as a surprise present. Such a happy dream! Of course I had to tell him about it, so I have sucessfully planted that seed.

I know I want one, and I know I will get it eventually even if I have to buy it for myself. LOL

Just need to pay off my new Lenni first.;)

Hi Cheryl and Annie,

I offer another alternative for IQ training. I developed a 40 hour comprehensive IQ course that I teach online. You'll learn every aspect of IQ from beginner to advance. Online training eliminates the high cost of traveling and gives you the opportunity to learn how to use IQ in the comfort of your home, at times that are convenient for you. My background and passion is teaching. Thirty years ago I earned a teaching credential in adult vocational education.

I’ve taught dental assisting, continuing education courses for health professionals and for the last 7 years computerized quilting and digitizing with AutoSketch. My method of teaching is comprehensive and gradient . . comprehensive because I include concepts and background information that’s vital to understanding your computerized quilting system . . . gradient because topics are presented in sequence, like walking up a flight of stairs. My students don’t “skip steps”, jumping from one subject to another. This creates holes in your learning, making it easy for you to believe you’re fluent in a subject, when actually your understanding is superficial. Instead, you will master topics that will build on each other. You won’t just learn how to set-up IQ by entering a series of tasks, you’ll really understand what you’re doing when using IQ’s features. I’m happy to answer any of your questions . . just contact me.

Warm Regards,

I can vouch for Suzanne's online class. I took it shortly after getting my IQ and I can tell you it was wonderful. I have not encountered anything since, that I have not been able to accomplish without "help". I have not had to "rely" on the training videos or boosters that are on the IQ site to learn how to use my system.

Her training has helped me to also "be a better dealer" so that I can provide proper training and support to my IQ customers as well. :)

I have contemplated going to one of the big shows cause I usually do, but when I look at the classes offered (IQ), I don't see anything that I did not learn in Suzanne's online training.
