Was it freehand? So sorry to hear of the sad loss of your friend. Yes it is freehand, 1st time I've done a feather overall and it was fun, I will be doing that again... Kathy, since Diane finished it, I do not remember who's pattern it is.... I have this pattern. Piecing done, but have not had a chance to get it quilted yet. Beautiful and easy to do! The most difficult part is choosing fabrics. The pattern is "Floral Chain" by Chi Chi Quilt Designs. I believe I picked it up at the Sugar Pine Quilt shop in Canmore, Alberta, although I haven't been able to find it on their website. It is available online (in Canada) at Along Came Quilting in Calgary. Here is a link for anyone interested in purchasing http://store.alongcamequilting.com/stores_app/Browse_dept_items.asp?Shopper_id=62082152314206208&Store_id=487&page_id=17 sorry... tried the link and it didn't take me directly to the pattern... just type floral chain in the search box and it will come up

LadyLake
Ardelle, What a beautiful way to honor your friend's memory -- both by completing the quilt and giving it to auction towards peace. The watercolor Irish chain is in my pile of 'want to piece' patterns. Thanks for sharing!
Bekah
Ardelle, what beautiful feathers you quilted on this tribute to your friend. I am so sorry she lost her battle but what special friends she had that were able to finish this quilt. Her family must be very special too to allow it to be auctioned. I hope it raises tons of money.
