meg_marsh
I have been making some little kids charity quilts so I could work on my pantos. Problem - to utilize the full wide of a single cut of fabric and keep the quilt as wide as possible the clamps were totally in the way and there was no place to check my tension... Problem solved - made fabric leaders and then on the left side added a small quilt sandwich that I could move along as I advanced the quilt. Worked great and the quilt width ended up being about 39" instead of 35 - 36! Just thought this might be of interest to some of you. If you click on the picture - it will enlarge and you can see easier. [/img]

PattyJo
A good idea and the pins are on the underneath side so you don't scratch yourself on the sharp point. Thanks for posting that Meg.
ramona-quilter
Mrg, I can't see the photos (webshots blocked at work) but will check them out later. It does sound like a clever solution to a familiar problem. I'm going to have to try that with some of my scimpy backs.
IBQLTN2
smart girl  we do need space to scribble a little and check tension, etc.

Helen G
Now aren't you a smart cookie? Good idea! Sometimes I get a quilt loaded and decide to try different threads--great way to check tension and see how the threads will look on fabric! eswindy
I do that too.. Keeps the extended base from hitting the side tension strap
