Georgene
A customer is asking if I can use Sashiko thread in my Millennium. She says it's equivalent to size 8 pearl cotton, but that doesn't help me much, because I'm not very familiar with pearl cotton. Any thoughts or experiences. I haven't a clue. I know that size 5.0 needle is the largest I can run on the my machine......
srichardson
I am no expert but the only Sashiko thread that I have seen has been in skeins rather than a continuous length. Does it come on spools? Sue
Georgene
I did some web searches and I didn't see it on cones or spools either. I'll just tell her it can't be used. Thanks.
sewlinzi
You do get Sulky cotton in 12 weight but I think you would have to go very slowly or fiddle about and put it in the bobbin - I think it would be tricky...
Primitive1
I agree, I think I would ask her to use maybe something else thicker in a similar color that she wants the Shashiko thread in...? Vicki
AnnHenry
I just took a class in sashiko. Tell her to forget it! Sashiko is a hand quilting skill. Use thread made for longarming!
circlelord
Hi, Kay used the largest white thread that would run on the machine. I think we used cotton string. Or, Polyplus 20 by Cansew polyester. She then used a long stitch to simulate hand quilting. Here is a picture. Georgene
This is very interesting, and I think it's the result my customer wants. I will try to find that thread. She wants white.
ffq-lar
Not to rain on her parade, but that beauty stitched by Theo was, of course, computer-guided. If you are without a CG system, such contrasting thread (usually white on indigo) requires precise, careful, precise, accurate, precise, exact stitching. Did I mention precise?? Believe me, BTDT on an indigo quilt. I almost had a nervous breakdown! Real Sashiko is so precise, the hand-quilting stitches are actually counted along each segment of the design so they are even and each motif exactly matches it's mates. If she wants Sashiko, have her pay someone to hand stitch the Sashiko and then you can do your magic on the rest. Sorry to be discouraging--as I said, been there.... Georgene
Thanks Linda, I need the facts, because I don't have them. I don't have a computerized machine, but she's asking for Circle Lord templates, so I can be rather precise with the quilting. And fortunately she doesn't want a Sashiko design, just the white thread on indigo. But even with the CL, it will have to be something with only one pass. I appreciate the feedback.
