QUILTMAAMA
My thread keeps breaking and I have cleaned and checked everything over. One thing I did notice is that the encoder light was blinking. Is it suppose to do that or are the 2 lights suppose to stay on. Frustration is at its highest! Calicoquilter
This happened to me once and I was so frustrated. I checked everything to no avail until I finally noticed that my thread was hanging up where it was coming off of the cone. I think it was catching on the cord or something. It isn't always what you think it is. Sorry, I can't be more helpful.
LynnQuilts
Try loosening your top tension. That's usually what causes my thread to break.
Quilting Heidi
Good advice so far. I would also make sure the bobbin tension isn't too tight. What thread are you using? I would definitely loosen the top tension. Make sure it isn't hooking on somthing like Colleen suggested.
SandraC
Do you have the quilt stretched too taut??
Stagecl
It is okay for the encoder light to be blinking. I asked that question of Amy one time because I wasn't sure.
Stagecl
Also make sure that your needle is in straight and no burrs on it. If I still have problems I'll change out the needle. If is is a fussy thread, tweak the eye of the needle slight to the right towards the thread guides sometimes that will do the trick.
Myrna Ficken
yes the encoder light blinks. Run you finger along the hoop point to be sure you have no burs . Call me and I will be happy to try and help you out.
meg
could you please let us know what it was when you fix it? i would really like to know.
Gator
If all else fails, try a different spool of thread. Thread can be wrapped wrong, dried out or old.
quiltlover03
Sometimes, when I use a polyester thread without a net, it comes of the spool to fast, jumps out of the pigtails and catches on the pigtails screws. It shreds and breaks there. Are you using Polyester thread? If so, try a threadnet halfway up the cone. It slows it down somewhat and I have my tension nice and tight. Just something else to look for along with all the other advice.
Neher-in-law5
I just read the posts here about dry thread (it has thread in the topic line). She has found humidity to make a difference in some of the thread breakage. Would this be affecting yours? It would be worth a try, and some humidity would only help even just the dryness of your skin in working with the fabrics. Good luck.
CWBowser
I had that happen and it was the thread. I replaced the thread and the machine worked fine. The "bad" thread does work in the bobbin so I didn't have to throw it out. I wrote on the cone bottom for bobbin only so I wouldn't use it on the top by mistake. QUILTMAAMA
Thank you for all your thoughts on this problem. I tried changing threads and bobbin threads. I used King Tut on the top and so fine on the bottom. I tried all your ideas but to no avail. I have emailed my APQS rep and am waiting to hear from her. I hope I can get her and her husband to come and see what is going on. I will keep you posted on the problem! Thanks everyone!
