dnice
This is one of 3 rememberance quilt that I am making for my sister from her mother-in-laws fabrics and clothes. I am going to echo stitch around the butterflies and then do cc's on the pieced border. However I am totally stumped on the large outside border. Below is the first one I did. With echo stitching the butterflies, SID on the pieced borders and piano keys on the solid butterfly borders. (Yes, Her MIL loved butterfies.) Quilting Heidi
Denice, What a nice thing for you to do. I would just do a freehand swirly design because with that busy print you won't see much quilting. The other option would be piano keys or even cross hatching. kennan100
You could do a swirly floral vine freehand. the flowers, leaves, and swirls would go with the butterflies and it woulodn't matter if it was seen so much, but it would be faster than any precision quilting you could do, and you could make it a density to match the inside areas. dnice
I like the idea of matching the density of the inside of the quilt. I will play with a couple of the ideas that you suggested on paper first to see what I like. The circles is and interesting idea. Would you make them concentric or interlocking. Thinking of the crosshatch done with soft waves to pick up the freehand and circles maybe a way to do the border also. What do you all think? Quilting Heidi
Denice I like the idea of a wavy cross hatch. That would give some movement.
LinneaMarie
Great ideas, but I agree the fabric is so busy you won't see the quilting too much!! Love you quilts! They look great and what a nice memento you've made!!
delld
I likeHeidi's idea of wavey cross hatching!
Tracey
I would do a piano key border. I have found that I like the texture of the straight lines against busy prints. JMHO Tracey
Busy Quilting
Why not go with wavy piano keys then they wouldn't need to be precisely measuring the distance betweeen them. Lyn
Chocoholic
I would lean toward just loops, like butterflies flying, as you won't see the quilting much in that busy border. It is simple, but would match the fabric if you got close enough to see it.
dnice
I am still playing on paper what I like. Wavy piano keys....Loops.... Let me try them....
FloridaMissy
I would echo around each butterfly in the border print also. Although it is busy print it will give you the same density of quilting as the center. I think it will look lovely from the backside. Sheri Butler
Diagonal CrossHatching would help mimic the triangles in the quilt. Whether you do them wavy or not..
dnice
Here is the finished Quilt that I asked for input. I ended up using the wavy piano keys on the border. Thanks for all the inputs. Showing the back with the wavy piano keys. I may have to by a better camera. I used a light lavender thread by Superior on the quilt. The Lagre butterflies are not cottons but silk from a couple of blouses.
