Calicoquilter
Quilting Granny, Here is a tutorial on how to do sashiko. I have usually seen it done with white thread on dark blue fabric but this shows blue thread on white fabric. http://www.purlbee.com/sashiko-tutorial/

LadyLake
Part of the confusion might be that 'sashiko quilting' can mean using sashiko-like designs on the long-arm, rather than hand-quilting with thick thread. From what I've seen, they tend to be very structured, repeating designs.

IBQLTN2
longarm university has some videos using their sashiko circles and diamond rulers that are very good and if you get machine quilting unlimited magazine their . July edition had a large section on the sashiko quilt designs by Barbara Hollinger. Starting on page 16 thru 23 there are lots of examples to look at , it was especially good timing for me as I am getting ready to do my oriental quilt.
