jschleim
As luck would have it, the back of my quilt is 2" too short. It is loaded on my machine and I have quilted several blocks only to find that the short back. Is there a way to add more fabric (I only have 34" left) without taking the quilt off my machine. LadyLake
I have scooted my sewing table next to the front of the longarm and added more fabric to a backing that way.

Bonnie H
Is it possible to lay your extra backing fabric about one inch away from where the backing is pinned to the belly bar, wrong sides together, and sew a straight line with your long arm, trim if you feel the one inch is too big to keep, then unfold the fabric, press the seam open with an iron, unpin the old end of the backing fabric from the belly bar and then re-pin what you have just sewn down with the long arm? Sounds like a lot of work but not sure what else I would do. When I got my Red Snappers I came up kinda short but had one-fourth to one-eighth of an inch to spare and just barely made it work. If I had to add fabric, I would used the method above.
Littleshoes
oh my, I had never thought about moving my domestic machine onto a table closer to the LA. ha ha... what a picture this is painting in my mind. and...... i'm thinking I will try this next time I have to do it. lol Thanks again for a great idea. jschleim
Thanks for all the hints. My domestic machine is in my studio and my quilting machine is in another room. I could move it but would put it on the floor as the darn thing weighs 22# ... but I like the idea of using the longarm for this and will try that first before lugging my domestic machine. Kueser
I've used my "go to class" sewing machine to sew on additional backing when I forgot to measure first.
