jmcclannan
Lately I have noticed that when I've been quilting for an hour or so my machine starts making a noise kind of like a chain rattling and sometimes that noise continues for a millisecond after I stop stitching. I keep my Millie cleaned and well oiled so I'm pretty sure that's not the issue. Any idea if this is anything to worry about? I'm not having any problems but... RunningThreads
Julie Have you ever repacked the gearbox? It makes quite a racket when you get an air pocket. Call Amy, she can listen over the phone and get you fixed up. Nigel
Sheri Butler
Seriously Jewels? Another issue?
Bonnie
Pretty sure its what Nigel said you have a air pocket. Call and have Amy or Fraser listen to it. It's sort of sounds like a bunch of bb's rolling around or a chain as you mentioned.
quiltmonkey
Vibrations coming from the hood? Mine does this... I put a little wad of batting wedged in between where the metal hood meets and that kept it from making that sound. The electronics under the hood need to "breathe" so don't completely fill that space with batting.
jmcclannan
Sheri, it probably isn't a big deal since the machine is running just fine. Bonnie, that's exactly what it sounds like and I can live with it as long as I know it's not a problem. Shana, it's definitely not a vibration issue. It does sounds like BBs rolling around. witha'K'quilting
my machines are well packed for grease...and my millie does this. i tend to think as shana...its the vibration of the hood.
Bonnie
Pretty sure it's an air pocket then. Order some grease and when you get a moment repack. Call Amy to confirm but there isn't any harm to run with air pockets just a noise that get louder with time.
DawnCavanaugh
Hi Julie, Bonnie is correct...you can run the machine with an air pocket. In fact the grease is in the gearbox solely as a sound dampener, not a lubricant. Let us know if the sound changes or you notice other symptoms. Otherwise, happy quilting! jmcclannan
Thanks, Dawn. I will carry on and turn the radio up.
dancing bear
early on i had that "rolling BBs" sound and I found that it was my bobbin case needing a little bit of oil.
jmcclannan
Nope, it is well oiled. I am certain the noise is coming from the gear box. Now that I know it isn't a problem I am going to ignore it until it becomes so annoying that i am willing to go through the process of changing the grease. That could take a while as long as I turn the radio up loud enough.
