sspingler
During that era there was a lot of crosshatching, egg and dart for sashings and 1/4" quilting. I used those a lot in my hand quilting days.

Myrna Ficken
Joan it quilts up very nice and it is simple especially with all the different fabrics in the quilt. In the border I think I would do concentric arcs or piano keep to contrast all the point in the blocks and give texture. Can't wait to see what you do. Gosh I love quilting!!! CrazyAboutQuilting
Joan, I can't wait to see how you quilt that beautiful quilt. You always do such beautiful work. Myrna, I too love the block design that you drew! Thanks for sharing it with all of us. I'm going to try it on one of my upcoming quilts!
LadyLake
The Civil War quilt is done and here is a closeup shot of the block quilting, which was modeled after Myrna's design -- thank you, Myrna!
LadyLake
Here is a swag I put in the middle of the two long sides of the border, which I did since the feathered cables would not fit evenly into the space.
LadyLake
I was a bit surprised and disappointed that the thread I used, King Tut Cedars, barely showed on the border. I learned that the color red is very good at absorbing color. If you can't see it (!), it is a feathered cable design.
LadyLake
Here's the full quilt. I used Quilters Dream Natural Cotton select loft batting. The whole quilt was quilted with King Tut 'Cedars" and medium brown (618) Bottom Line pre-wounds.
LadyLake
Here is another block -- I think you can see the quilting path better in this photo. Just a tip for newbies, I originally quilted a ninepatch in the corner stones, but was not happy with the lines which were not all exact. So I played a disguising trick and did continuous curve on the block and now you can't tell that the lines weren't even. Thank you all for looking and for helping me out with design ideas!
