Georgene
I take pictures of my customer quilts and post them on Webshots. Then I send a slideshow of that album containing all the pictures of that particular quilt to the person who pieced it. This week, I went to post some pictures and I get a notice that Smile has bought Webshots. I can no longer post to Webshots. Well I went through the process of signing up for Smile and they automatically transferred all my pictures over. However, there is no capability to place the pictures in separate albums. So I have hundreds of pictures all there but not separated into groups. I don't like that. Are you posting to a site that you would recommend? I would like a place that makes it easy to share the quilt pictures with others. Webshots was so easy to use. I hate that it is gone.
GrandmaLKB
I will be interested to hear what others say........I use Webshots, too, but haven't posted anything for a while and didn't know about the switch over. I've seen some use Flicker ?
Quilting Heidi
I didn't know about this either. It seems there is not going to be any free version either. Either $15 or $30 a year depending on what you choose. I need to figure out how to download all my pictures because some of these I don't have. carolinequilts
I use Flickr. I 'bought' extra space because I have a lot of pictures there (about $30 per year). My pictures are in sets and my sets are in collections. Nice and organized.
Lynn W
I use the free version of Photobucket. I organize my images as I like and have never had any problems.
RoseCity Quilter
I also use flicker and love it. I can set each picture for public or for family so I can easily separate my business pictures from my personal and share with customers and family as needed.... Georgene
Heidi, if you're talking about downloading pictures from Webshots, you need first to download the Webshots desktop. That is what allows you to download all your pictures. They will stay in groups or albums, but the album names are lost, they are changed to numbers. But you'll have all your pictures downloaded in one quick command and they will still be grouped.
Quilting Heidi
Georgene I've downloaded it but haven't figured out yet how to download the albums. I did figure out how to download an individual picture. What am I missing?
arwing
I found a way - not sure how I got there - where they would send you an email link to download all your pictures from Webshots. Did that, and each album came in a zipped file. I just tried to get in and find a link to share, but am unable to from work. Search the help section in webshots and see if you can find the place to request it. It worked very slick and allowed me to keep the pictures organized and easily move them to a new place. LibbyG
I guess this means all the pictures we've posted on the forum using webshots will disappear. Now, that's a bummer!
Georgene
I think the pictures from webshots go away in December. Meanwhile you can sign up (free) for Smile and they will transfer all you pictures there. At least they would be somewhere accessible.
Quilting Heidi
LOL Georgene I just found the same thing. I clicked on it and we'll see what happens. 2 weeks is rediculous! I'm not at all liking the new smile.webshots and would never pay to use that site.
Georgene
Heidi, I got an email back from them in less than 15 minutes, and downloaded all my pics.

sammi357
The Smile terms of use are awful! I read them, I'm not an atty, but to my understanding, though you keep the rights to your photos, they owned everything else, free, forever. I downloaded the few that I had in there, but I haven't decided which format to switch to. Picasa and Photobucket were mentioned on my sewing forum. s
sammi357
Just curious... Is it okay to post photos to online sites of customer quilts? Do you use a release form? Some quilt show forms stipulate that the quilt must not have been shown before, and does having it posted on a website could interfere?
Georgene
Wow, Sammi357, I hope someone responds. They are excellent questions.
GrandmaLKB
No e-mail to download my pics yet either. It did say it could take 48 hours and I just did it this morning. Will give it a couple of days and see what happens. I signed up for Flickr, so I am all set to go there.
GrandmaLKB
Well, I received the e-mail from Webshots to download my pictures, but the link didn't work. When I went to Webshots site to try to download and save, my computer went crazy...........screen flashing on and off and the only way I could stop it was to shut down my computer! So, this morning, I moved my pics to SMILE for free and saved them in My Pictures, then uploaded to Flickr. Good grief...........I didn't have that many pics on webshots, but I didn't want to lose them either. I am in the process of uninstalling Webshots from my system. Quilting Heidi
Linda my link didn't work either so I emailed customer service. This is what they sent me. I just downloaded all my pictures so I'm happy! No Smile for me because you can't share them, whats the point? Hello, Thank you for contacting Webshots Customer Support. We're sorry that you had this trouble downloading your photos. If you have received notice that your photos are ready to be downloaded, you can use these steps to locate the zip file(s) and save your photos to your computer. Please note that we recommend using the Firefox browser (www.mozilla.org) to access Webshots to download and save your photos. 1. Go to http://community.web...tures/downloads in the address bar of Firefox. 3. Click the "Download my personal photos" button. If your photos are ready to be saved, you'll see the zip file(s) after clicking the Download button. 4. Your photos will be bundled into manageable Zip files. Your videos and Picture Show videos will be listed as individual links for download. 5. When you click on the link for a zip file, winzip will open. This will show the albums (folders) included in the zip file. Select a folder and then click Extract. Now, choose a folder on your computer to save the photos to and click extract at the bottom of the window. Repeat this process for each folder in the zip file. 7. If you have more than one Webshots membership, you will need to log in and initiate the download process within each of your Webshots accounts. SPECIAL NOTE: The files you download in this process will be available for 2 weeks. Please DO NOT DELETE OR MOVE YOUR PHOTOS AND VIDEOS from Webshots until you have downloaded and saved all the files to your computer or other storage media! If you miss the two week window, you can initiate the download process again, but ONLY IF YOU HAVE NOT DELETED YOUR PHOTOS from Webshots. PLEASE be aware that once photos are deleted, we are unable to recover them! DO NOT DELETE any personal photos or videos until after you have securely downloaded and saved them to your personal computer or storage media. Eventually, the Webshots site will completely close and all photos and videos will be deleted from our database. After the closing date, personal photos or videos will no longer be available. Please save your personal photos as soon as possible! Thank you, Dennis R. Your Customer Support Representative www.Webshots.com
