NQR - Migraine doctors???

Recommended Posts

My daughter suffers from migraines and has for years. She is seeing a Dr in Hattiesburg but is getting no relief. Does anyone know of a good (no, great!) doctor for these headaches. We can travel the state of MS and into LA and AL. If you have had a good experience with a Dr. please pass it on to us. Many Blessings.

Have your current doctor refer her to a pain management clinic. My daughter had severe ear pain from a virus and no pain Medication worked. I got them to finally refer her to pain management and they put her on a nerve blocker and it worked. The worse that will happen is they wont help either but they have different ideas from regular doctors.

Hope you can find her some relief they are miserable.

Hi, Has she tried going gluten free for a week? Just one week will let her know if the migraines are gluten based. Mine went away with 48 hours of going gluten free and have not had them for years. I have slowly added gluten back in a small amount a week. Still no migraines. No meds worked and I had a Dr. suggest it for another problem and it worked for me. I know of lots of people who have gone gluten free to rid themselves of headaches. Good luck and I hope you find out something soon.

I ended up going to a pain clinic as a last option ,I never wanted to go because I heard all they do is give you pain pills and send you home each month but as the months went by I was referred out to a bunch of great specialists ,one even whispering in my ear to leave the hospital because the neosergeon they had was no good so I did go request a copy of all my medical records and headed over the PA state line Elmira ,NY to an excellant doc , I also agree with Lynn Marie, try the gluten free ,it really helped me also .

I am sending all this good info to Buffy. She is getting antsy about not getting any relief. She has to miss bunches of work due to this ailment. I so hate it for her. She got it from Mike's side of the family. I have had a couple of these in my lifetime but only a couple. Poor Buffy has them all the time.

Suffering with migraines is no fun. It truly can incapacitate you. I had them for years. Pain management was not so good years ago and it was unmanageable for me.

My daughter has had them (she lives in CA) and I am in OH. She is gluten intolerant and is now on a gluten free diet. Have not heard her mention headaches for quite a while. Just checked with my daugher. She said it took about a year, but she hasn't had any for quite a while. Also, she suggested Buffy might want to be checked for gluten intolerance and a Celiac Dr. might suggest she be tested for other food allergies bercause their is some opinion that other food allergies can trigger migraines.

Hope she can get some help. It makes life difficult. I was like your Buffy and had them often.

Marilyn.

I don't have migraines often enough to deal with doctors. However, two of my colleagues lose (or used to lose) 2-4 days of their lives every month due to migraines. In addition to other meds, they have started taking magnesium at the first sign of a headache. Apparently, the magnesium has made a huge difference in the severity of the headaches. You can take magnesium orally - but that has side effects (think Milk of Magnesia). You can also put magnesium crystals in your bath water; your body will soak up what it needs through the skin. Magnesium baths are also good for general body aches. Apparently, magnesium controls or contributes to a large number of cellular functions in the body. As always, she should discuss this with a physician - but my friends have been pleasantly surprised at how much this has helped.

I hope that Buffy finds answers and gets relief soon!

Another consideration is if she drinks diet soda with aspartame. I know a lot of people, myself included, who are sensitive to aspartame and have terrible headaches from it. The FDA considers it to be safe, however it isn't for everyone. One person that I know was going to go on disability and another was going to have exploratory brain surgery, however once they stopped consuming soda with aspartame they made full recoveries and are OK. The headaches that I had were so bad that I could not get my head off of the pillow and myself out of bed. I stopped drinking soda with aspartame, the headaches stopped, and after about a month I felt normal and clear headed again.

It is something to consider, doesn't cost anything, doesn't include taking drugs, and it isn't necessary to see a doctor to give it a try. Sending best wishes for Buffy, and hugs for you to help her through this problem.
