Bonnie in Ok
I have a harltey base and when using it I notice that the ease of moving the head of my machine around takes more effort to move. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong. I don't think the fabric sandwich is to tight because if I loosen it any more then the fabric has a tendency to move to much with the head. It is okay when I am using a ruller but when I do areas not with a ruler to get to the next ruler area there seems to be more drag. Just wondering if I need to build up my muscles a little more or I need to adjust something.
Barbara Conquest
My machine does exactly the same with my expanded base -- a different brand. Nuisance!
LisaC
Yes, there is a bit more drag; but at least it comes on and off easily. I don't use my Hartley Base with my Micro drives because of it; it makes my hands hurt. I use my micro drives without the base and just glide my little fingers on the quilt. Much better! chrisquilter
I very seldom use my base extender for that very reason. I still have the thread cutter on my machine and that gives me just enough surface to use most of my rulers.
sewlinzi
I find that the Hartley base drags a bit with Lenni depending on what fabric I am using as backing, especially plastic coated lame! My preferred base is my Milli's permanently attached ruler mate.
quiltingjoyful51
Did you know you can raise your quilt roller bar a turn or two to reduce the drag. I raised my bar two complete turns. I am not sure about a Lenni.
LisaC
Yes, I had to raise my bar to accommodate and it was noticeably better. They are just a fairly large surface of resistance underneath. I prefer to use mine only for ruler work for the most part.
Sharonarooni
Joyce, Thank you! That is great information. I had no idea we could do that on the roller bars. I may have to try that. Sharon
LisaC
Especially with a ruler on your base, you may have to raise it to use both near the bar.
