Bonnie in Ok
What is the lightest weight batting out there? Need for a quilt that is going to Africa.
chrisquilter
When I am looking for a very light weight batting I use Thermore by Hobbs. You could always put flannel the middle. I think this is how they used to quilt the "summer weight" quilts. Not an expert here, but I thought I read somewhere. LOL
lkl
Hobbs thermore poly batting is ultra thin. I've used it in a summer quilt. Pellon Legacy has an ultra thin poly batting. I've used it to double bat with a bamboo/cotton blend. On it's own it would be very light weight. Pellon also has a soy/ cotton blend and a bamboo/ cotton blend that are light weight. Even their wool is light weight but would probably be too bulky.
Beachside Quilter
I also use Pellon Legacy Ultra Thin; 1/16" thick, whenever someone requests "no batting" or "extra thin" batting. Quilts, washes and drapes nicely without adding weight!
witha'K'quilting
winline 100% bamboo is very thin (about 1/16") and light. it drapes and breathes incredibly well. it also durable and antibacterial.
Sandra Darlington
Also look into Quilters Dream. They have a thin weight that is mainly for hand quilting because it is so thin. Some people complained about it being fragile and tearing as they tugged it on their longarm, but I read how some of our forum members living in Hawaii have used it successfully. The key seems to be that you need to be very gentle when using it on a longarm.
Neher-in-law5
What part of Africa is it going to? If it is up in the mountains, they may want a bit more warmth than we usually think of for there. Good luck finding the right one.
irene rose
Quilters Dream has a very lightweight cotton - Dream Cotton, and it's Dream Angel comes in a very lightweight. I like both of them.
