Mary Beth Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 I used the laser light on the front and traced a star from another block...whew...it is a little more difficult then I though...Also, I think my stitches are way too small...but, it work. At this point I am just over half finished with the blasted blocks - Feels like I have been working on this quilt forever!!
Charlene Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 Hi Mary Beth, You did a nice job. It should get easier the more you do. When I do stars, I have a template that fits around my hopping foot so I can just follow the outline of the template. Char
mrsbishwit Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 You did a great job Mary Beth. You could always purchase the CL "Starz" template to do your stars...alot easier. I used it on a quilt last month to place stars in a border and it worked out really good.
tsurich Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 Can't wait to see the entire quilt finished!
Mary Beth Posted August 16, 2007 Author Report Posted August 16, 2007 yea, I can't wait to see it finishe too/either whatever...I'm not having fun. Decided to go out for lunch...then over to Jeanne's to network!! That's what I get for living close to another machine quiter.
ffq-lar Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 Look at that nice crosshatching!! Will you ever offer it again??? And for what price??!! Really nice quilting on a really nice top!! You go! Linda R
TishMarshall Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 Good Job Marybeth. It does get easier. The applique quilt looks nice too, any pictures of that you can share?? We'd love to see it. Tish
ramona-quilter Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 The cross-hatching DOES look good. I know it is time-consuming no matter what tool or ruler you use. You know you don't have to cross-hatch every block , do you? It would be nice to mix it up with some other yummy backgrounds that are more free-motion than back-breaking. Oh, and I like the star. CL stars are cool but I like the rounded ones for this quilt. Did you use one of your brand-spanking-new-MQS rulers?? You can do this.
Mary Beth Posted August 17, 2007 Author Report Posted August 17, 2007 Nope!! No rulers for this advanced freehand guru!! I aimed my little laser light at one of the stars in the next block over and ta-da!! Well actually, stitch, rip, stitch, ta-da!! I am not sure the quilters in this city will be able to afford the price I charge for crosshatching after this.
PattyJo Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 Isn't it great to learn a new thing. Now, there's no stopping you MaryBeth, You can do anything you set your mind to.
mrmquilt Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 Mary Beth, Your star turned out great. I hope you keep playing with the lazer light it does get easier the more you do it. Can't wait to see this whole quilt!!! Michele
kellysuequilter Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 I love using the lazer light! You did a really good job.

Bekah Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 Mary Beth you are an inspiration to all of us who are still a little bit laser shy and the cross hatching is really beautiful. I lke what Linda in Ramona said about maybe doing some freehand in some of the blocks. No matter what you do though this is going to be one beautiful quilt.
Mary Beth Posted August 18, 2007 Author Report Posted August 18, 2007 You all are so nice to me. My confidence level is about -57 right now. The more I work on this quilt the lower it goes. I will be so happy to be finished with this thing. Thank you for your uplifitng comments, it does help.
