SherryRogers
I am attempting to bind Heavy Metal and am trying to apply the binding to a deep scallop properly. I am using bias binding but am getting a small pleat where I pivot. Any tips, videos or hand holding I could get on this? Thanks gobs in advance
Bonnie
The only suggestion that I have is if you clip the inside of the pleat, that may release it enough so that you can get inside the corner and not have it show so bad.
dtreusch
Sherry, Check out Sharon Schambers free video on curved binding. I watched it awhile back and if I remember correctly, there is some clipping involved. http://www.sharonschambernetwork.com/free_area/videos/perfect_curved/part1.html Debbi
Quilting Heidi
Sherry, When I do curved bindings I clip the seam allowance straight in almost to the 1/4" mark. I stitch the bias binding along the curve and go into the clip and stopping just inside of where I clipped. Then leaving my needle down I raise my presser foot, pivot and get it smoothed out so that I can continue onto the next scallop. Oh yeah I also bite my tongue the whole time :D. Just go slow and you\'ll get it without the tuck.

hollyc
clip at the point of the curve. the only way I know to eliminate the pleat is to actually sew it shut like you would be doing for any show quilt at the four outer corners.
AnnHenry
Is your binding too wide? The scallop may be too deep to ever do it easily.
SherryRogers
Hi Ann I think it was just because I didn\'t know how to do scallops! I have a friend loaning me a couple of books on the subject and I still need to look at Sharon\'s video as well . All said and done, it didn\'t turn out too bad but it will be better the next time. sherryjack
Sherry, I watched Sharon Schamber\'s video just today and I\'m going to try it next time. The finished binding looks perfect and she miteres the pleat and stitches it down. She also machine stitches the bindiing to the back instead of hand stitching. I think hand stitching would look better. I see Debbie has the link on her reply. BTW Heavy Metal is fantastic!! Sherry Jack

Quilting Heidi
Sherry, That came out great. Really once you get the scallops down you will wonder what all the stress is about! I love the border on this one, it just adds a nice dimension.
