PatSchafer
I'm definitely investing in a ruler mate. The question is whether to purchase it to attach to my Millie with or without the thread cutter. I rarely if ever use the thread cutter. I bring my thread to the top in most cases and just didn't get in the habit of cutting it when doing pantos, etc. I think less weight with the thread cutter would be a good thing. What is your experience? Pat Schafer
Sheri Butler
I took mine off and LOVE it.!!!!!!! I DO notice the difference in weight!

Quilting Heidi
I must be an odd duck because I use my thread cutter all the time. I tie and bury. I cut the thread give the top thread a little pull and bring the bobbin thread up to the top and then tie it off and bury it.
DoryJM
Okay, Sheri...how hard was it to take off and what year is your Millie. I think ours are different years based on the light photos. I really want to get a rulermate and leave it on all the time, but haven't been able to justify it yet. But...if I take my thread cutter off, then I'll HAVE to get another base:D Heidi...I LOVE your picture! Is it from the wedding?
Quilting Heidi
Dory yes the picture is one from the wedding. Shana cropped it and forced me to post it!

I use it all the time. I'm not taking it off.
DoryJM
Good job Shana on forcing Heidi to put up her picture!! Okay, I must be missing something then. When I've used the thread cutter, I get such a short tail that pulling the bobbin thread up to start again takes major manipulation. What am I doing wrong?? Mary Beth
I did use my thread cutter, but was not smart enough to think to pull the threads up. Since I don't bury threads, and I needed a lighter load, taking off the thread cutter was the perfect solution and I'm glad I did.
Hollyrw
I don't use my thread cutter because it always leaves such a short tail coming out of the bobbin that pulling the thread up to start in the next place is a pain. For me it's just been easier to pull the bobbin to the top and clip it.
witha'K'quilting
I'm with Heidi. I use my thread cutter all the time too, bring up the bobbin thread, then tie and bury. Have the Ruler Mate base too...and love it!
DoryJM
I pull my threads up and clip...if I used the thread cutter, the tail is to short for starting the next bit. How do you get around that?
witha'K'quilting
I move the machine about 3-4 inches then cut the thread with the cutter. When I start in a new spot and bring up the thread, I can only move an inch or so and grab the bottom thread with tweezers and pull out what I need. Works for me. DoryJM
Maybe I'll give that a try before removing the thread cutter...
PatSchafer
Wow, Thanks so much for all of the responses. Before I take off the thread cutter I'm going to try to bring the thread up. That's been my problem - why use it when I want to bury my threads. But some of you have been successful, so I'll give it a try. Pat
