elkayr
Hi, I belong to a bee & each year we have a challenge for the members. Last year, it was to complete a UFOs each quarter & bring to show & tell. We are looking for a new idea for this coming year. Do any of you have an idea for a neat challenge? Rita
Our guild's challenge is to buy, make, or borrow any type bag (purse, shopping, etc.) and then to design a quilt from the INSPIRATION...not an accurate translation...it must be totally done by one person... Matt Sparrow
Our guild cut out the back of cereal, cracker, chocolate boxes, magazine ads and gave one to each participant and let them interpret color, images and design how ever they wanted and incorporate it into a quilt. I was shocked how excited the Ladies got after seeing their cutout.
witha'K'quilting
My previous guild chose paint color cards and stated rules to go with them. Black and white and one color from the card only. Any design with a size requirement. It was fun. Color cards with simple traditional pattern...use only the colors on the card....and can set the pattern blocks any way you wish...on point, with or w/wo sashing. Lots of beautiful quilts came from these ideas.
nora123
This idea is a great way to use up scraps. Have each member cut three inch squares from scraps (lots of squares). Each person will bring their squares and all the squares will be dumped into a big trash bag and mixed up really well. Each lady will grab a big handful. Have them put the handful in a smaller brown bag. Now the pattern is called no peek nine patch. They must pull out nine squares one at a time and sew them into a nine patch block. NO cheating and putting something back. You will all have a great time, laugh a lot and be very suprised at how great the blocks will look. Did I mention you need a lot of squares. All that will be needed is sashings and borders and you have quilt tops. You can plan a pot luck and quilt til you wilt. Just my two cents. francine
This Guild stuff sounds like entirely too much work to me....
witha'K'quilting
I agree...that is part of the reason I no longer belong to one!
Neher-in-law5
There is always the Crayola Challenge. Buy a box of crayons, grab blindly three (or number of your choice) and have them make any quilt design they choose with only those colors. Or a percentage of the quilt would be those colors.
