alcote
When a customer wants an E2E on a quilt that is hand appliqued, do you ignore the applique and just continue the pantograph on top of the applique?
Primitive1
If that is what they want, I would cringe but do it....I would double check with them to be sure that is what they want because sometimes you may catch the edge of that applique with your hopping foot and it just doesn't do an applique quilt justice...but you are limited to what your customer will pay for and wants....personally....I wouldn't do an E2E over applique, much too much work...you could meander or something freehand around those appliques..... another thought, how big are the appliques? SandraC
Hi Al!! If they request E2E and understand that it means quilting over the applique I would just do it. It's their quilt, after all.
Quilting Heidi
I don't personally think I could do an e2e over a hand appliqued quilt. That would be such a waste in my mind. I know you have to do what the customer wants and what they want to pay for but since it is my business I guess I can decide which ones I don't want to work on. Dave-Jane
I think that would be the first I ever heard of doing it over the applique?? All that work to do it in the first place! I had one contemplate such a move and in the interest of the quilt, we agreed to a discount on my part and less border trim on hers. She was extremely glad we did this! Being the hard businessman that I am I did her borders anyway--LOL hope it's good advertising! ---Dave B. the wusshopper Ha Ha

quiltlover03
I recently quilted this heart Quilt, appliques all over, with an edge to edge panto, and it turned out just fine. the only thing I didn't like was the "plop" sound the needle made as it went through the bonding material. I went slower than I normally would, but Customer wanted it that way and was very pleased with it.

Gator
I agree with everyone. I also agree that it depends what the applique is, Monika's quilt is beautiful with the E2E. I do a lot of embroidery on my quits and the "thug" always scares the crap out of me.

quiltaholi_518
I had someone want E2E on hand applique, and we compromised. I do alot of freehand so I charged a bit more than freehand A/O and avoided most of the applique pieces, then recommended for her to add some veins in the leaves with her DSM and that sort of thing. But, I would definitely NOT work from the back, waaayyyy too scary.
Kristiequilts
I have a customer hand me all of her HAND PIECED quilt tops to machine quilt. I told her we were doing it the wrong way, but she likes to hand piece and absolutely loves my quilting. I don't ever do E2E on any of hers. BTW She never has wavy borders.
