Shar Schmutz
This is a quilt pieced by a new customer and I must say her piecing is exquisite. She tracked me down from AZ! She saw a quilt I did for another “Snowbird” in a local show. I believe it is a very large retirement type of development and they have their own quilting group and hold a show once a winter. She tells me she spent two weeks tracking the owner of the quilt she liked so she could find me. Isn’t my head swelling? LOL!!! When I received it, all I could see were oriental lanterns hanging over a fishpond. I emailed her a few ideas and told her I liked this one best and she went for it! Here is the outcome: Oh! Barb M. will tell you we had a teen at a show walk up the machine and just start quilting and she stitched a Koi!! She had never touched a machine in her life, I vowed I would put a Koi in a quilt some day, I managed to put four in this quilt. I didn't do it as easily as she did but I did get it done! yankiequilter
Great quilting, Shar. And what a compliment to you that your customer went to all the trouble to find you so you could quilt for her!
barbm
Shar, That's a stunning quilt - and a stunning quilting job!! Must have been loads of fun working around that flange, too! Those koi look like they're ready to jump off that quilt - you have exceeded the master, padawan learner!! I couldn't quilt a koi if it swam past my nose!! Great job! Quilting Heidi
Shar you did a great job. That is a lot of quilting. Don't you just hate having to quilt around those flanges? I just had a quilt that had 2 of them! I hate them!!!!
Shar Schmutz
Yes, Heidi, those flanges are a PITA! I got carried away with the quilting on this one, it certainly was a lot of quilting. I have to admit i used your trick of splitting wool and putting it on top of the Warm and Natural, it made a world of difference in the quilting showing up. This should have been one that was charged by the hour LOL! I had to laugh, she asked if I quilted in the summer, I guess their regular quilter does not quilt during the summer and I don't blame her if she is in AZ during that time! Thanks everyone for the nice comments, Barb I'm certain you could quilt a Koi!
BunkHouseQuilts
Very nice! You did a great job with your designs on that beautiful quilt. Interesting story about that lady tracking you down. Good for you! I have never done a koi. A couple of years ago, I was a mentor to a high school girl for her senior project. She made a quilt and I taught her to use my machine and quilt it herself. Like your story, this gal did all kinds of great quilting on the fly---her first time. Much better than I ever did when I first started.....and for a long time!
