I usually identify myself even though most people have caller ID. The conversation: Me--Hello, this is Linda. How are you? She--Oh hi! I was expecting to hear from you tonight! Me--Guess what? (Meaning--yes, your quilt is ready!) She--You're pregnant! hahahaha Me--Hahahaha! Nope! (Now I'm realizing that this isn't Linda I'm talking to and wonder if I dialed the wrong number.) Me--Your quilt is ready. This is Linda, isn't it? She --silence. Then she cracks up! She is the other Linda's housesitter and was expecting a call from HER! We get it all sorted out with much giggling and apologies. She takes a message and tells me they'll be home Sunday. Before I hang up I ask her to give Linda another message from me.
