Hey, Mary Beth & Bonnie: Did you consider that perhaps this woman had just come from the Red Hatters Annual Convention? Or perhaps she was marching in a Red Hatters Parade or had just finished visiting and having tea with some of her Red Hatter friends prior to her doctor\'s visit? Or, maybe she knows nothing of the red hatters but loves the colors red & purple together? :)

The purple high top converse sneakers intrigue me. I\'ll bet that woman is fun!

PS: I have a lunch box / carrying case that I keep some of my thread in (it was a gift from a friend). It has two red hatters riding a bike on the front of it. :) Too cute.

My mom said she has the right to wear red & purple together now that she\'s old! BTW Shana, Mom\'s a lurker and told me she decided she wants to adopt you! Then we\'d really be sisters!:P She said when your old you deserve to do anything you want. You can always blame it on age and people should just feel sorry for the little old lady that dresses that way or accidently passes you know what at the grocery store. It\'s one of the priveleges;) of old age according to her.

I think it is a really pretty quilt and how nice to get a gift from a customer (of course I love purple and red together).

Merry - my mil, who is now 88, has been telling me for years that she can finally say and do what she wants because it is a perk of being old. She figures people will just chalk it up to old age. Let me tell you she has embarrased me a time or two too, haha

Ladies,

I think the Red Hat Society probably fills the space in some women\'s lives that this chat fills in ours.:P They get to have high tea with like-minded ladies, share, rant & rave, all those things that we do here.:P

For those of you who don\'t know the background of the Red Hat Society, It was founded not so long ago by a woman who believed that "a woman\'s fiftieth birthday should be a time for celebration, not a milestone to be feared."

The red hat and purple outfit comes from a poem that starts out, "When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple, With a red hat which doesn\'t go, and doesn\'t suit me, And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves....."

Now, does that sound like us, or what?:P

Oh, I did it again...I offended some...I don\'t mean anything bad about the Red Hat Society. I know a woman that is very elegant, I think about 88 years old. She is very involved in the Red Hat thing...She looks hot when she goes for lunch with the ladies. They even are picked up in a stretch limo. It is a big deal and I applaud the ones that dress tastefully.

Debbi, the lady that gave you the quilt is someone to be idolized. I love to hear of people that selflessly give of their time and energy to do good. Love it!! What a great quilt. I hope you didn\'t think I thought it to be worthless, on the contrary, it\'s wonderful.

It is just when I took one look at that quilt it brought back this horrible memory of that woman at the doctor\'s office and I am afraid I may turn out to be like her. Man, I hope not...but I can kind of see it coming.

Shana, I own a pair of men\'s size 13 Banana Yellow Converse - I\'ll post a picture if I can find one.

Oh heavens, I do not think you offended at all, Mary Beth! :) I think your story of the lady in the waiting room is a cute one. I was trying to be a little silly, too, and imagined her and perhaps a little story behind why she was dressed that way? Anyway, some of the gals in my guild do a red hatter luncheon every once in a while with tea and yum yums (one if the ladies is in her late 70s and originally from England so she does the high tea thing) she\'s a hoot to be around; great sense of humor. It sounds like they really have fun together and I wanted to go too but they said nope...I was too young! :(

....I still think regardless of where she was or going, there are a few things that shouldn\'t be seen in daylight. Although she can wear her tennies, those would be cool.

And I\'m sad as well....if I still lived in Reno, as of next month I would get the senior discounts at all the Buffetts at the casinos...bummer. And as of 50 I believe I was eligable for the purple hat bunch. :P
