mcarmickle
I am looking for ideas for a background fill for a customer quilt. The quilt is a turning twenty with floral embrodiery blocks interspersed in the quilt. I could do micro stippling, but I would like to try something different. Any one have any ideas? Bonnie
And the misplaced cowgirl in the east is also scratchin' her head....Onion Skin and Fwirl....... Must be spending to much time in the basement lately....
AbigailE
Onion skin is in McT's book, it is an offshoot of McT'ing. More rounded. A fwirl is swirl spelled too quickly and w/o spell check. I'd like the posts to be able to be spell checked, I'd appear much, much smarter.... Basket weave is four lines vertical, 4 lines horizontal. Can make any size, give fantastic texture. Bonnie
Okay....I too need spell check, but that was funny. Onion Skin...well I guess I need to go reread my McT's....totally missed that one. Thanks for clearing that up...I was beginning to think I had missed something big time.
AbigailE
Swirl, twirl, unfurl. So a Fwirl would be a combo of all twirl and unfurl, channeled at the same time. New word. Try it and see what YOU get.... hee hee. said the silly.
quiltmonkey
Abigail, a Fwirl sounds like a Fun Swirl. I like fun swirls. So I plan to add some "f" to my swirls next time I PPP.
sspingler
One of the ones I learned was E's and 3's. They are really nice fillers in any size. Quilt an "E" then a "3". Maybe one of the mqr girls can post a pic.
JoleneK
mcarmickle - any chance you can post a picture of the quilt top? Its hard for me to visualize without a photo. Sharon - what is a mqr girl? I've tried to figure out the acronym, but no go, I couldn't.

ramona-quilter
The background fill of which Sharon and Jolene spoke is called 3s and Es and it is a fill by Rebecca Segura (www.rebeccasegura.com). You can see it on Machine Quillter's Resource. It adds a lot of texture and is a bit softer than stipple. I think Rebecca's how-to is on page 2. Here is the post
