mrsbishwit
I have a few stencils, can't say that I actually used them much, but they do add to my wall decor I am what the others call stencil challenged mostly because for most of my 5 years with my Liberty I have been at the back of my machine instead of working on my free motion quilting from the front...been trying to work on the white board every week to improve my feathers, and other stuff. Will have to think about this one.
Hawaii
Okay, I ordered my set of stencils from the Stencil Company (online). Guess that commits me. Is this an ongoing challenge or do we have a deadline, Mary Beth?
Mary Beth
I believe we will have a deadline. I am thinking we have to get throught MQX and MQS. Plus, I don't want to interefer with anyone's customer schedule. I'm thinking July 4th will be the deadline...how does that sound? Joann....that gives you time to step around to the front of the machine
Dar
Mary Beth, Do we have to use stencils for the whole quilt? I'd like to try, but not sure I have enough varieties. Dar
AnnHenry
How would a stencil challenge work? Are we designing a stencil? Please explain.
Calicoquilter
Mary Beth, I have never used a stencil. Are you going to talk us through this, or will we be on our own?

Mary Beth
I am working on a list of "rules" for the challenge. I will post them as soon as I have them ready. It is a long list, but don't freak out It is mostly a list of instructions/ideas to help those of you who have not used stencils. Of course you can ask me any thing you want, at any time during the challenge. I will provide my gmail email so that I will be able to read your email while I am at work during breaks. Of course you can send me a u2u too and I can get the message there. If your questions looks like something that would benefit others, I may post the question so that others can read it too. I will try to do what Michael has done with the CL Challenge and set up a blog to post all pictures so you can see them all in one spot without conversation , so you can focus on the pictures of the quilts. You will go there to to vote on your favorite. Everyone is invited to join in. Don't be afraid, you are among friends I just want to encourage you to use those stencils even if you never have before. You can do it!!!
Quilting Heidi
Mary Beth, Any chance we can go with end July? My busiest time at work is May/June with my fiscal year ending July 10th. I don't think I'll have much time in between to get it done but this is just my schedule so go with what works for everybody else.
Mary Beth
Heidi, that is fine. Like I said, I don't want this to interfer with anyone's schedule. We can make it August 1st if that helps everyone.

PatSchafer
I would love it. I have never done a stencil, but there have many quilts that I thought - a stencil would work here. Need the push. Can't wait to see the results. Pat Schafer
Mary Beth
I will let you all know one of the "rules" now so you can be thinking about this. I have received some very good suggestions for this challenge, one was that we use only one stencil and take as many design elements from that one stencil as possible. I like that idea. I think this will challenge everyone, even those who have used stencils before. I know when I read this, I loved the idea. Then I thought I should not consider it because I don't want those new to stencils to freak out. But really, it is a great idea. So select your stencil carefully....and be thinking of all the different designs you can get from one lone stencil
Stagecl
Can we make our own stencils?
