Hawaii
A good way to use up our longarm quilting scraps, not big enough for a quilt, but too good to toss! Lots of fun and last minute FAST!
barbm
Barbara, you'd have to use 100% cotton batting, no? An 80/20 blend wouldn't work. Or would you have to use thermal batting????
Hawaii
Note, 2 of the "play" pieces are done with CL Clams and CL Square dancing boards. The other practice play pieces were inspired by APQS youtube channel - Tina Collins - Echoed Lines and Swirls. Great resource!
RoseCity Quilter
:cool::cool: I have that pattern, how cool to quilt for several at once!
Hawaii
Barb, you could use thermal batting. I just used 2 layers of cotton batting. Better to be safe than sorry. Good question!
yankiequilter
Barbara, those are just too cute, thanks for the great idea. And I love your echoed lines and swirls. McSwirling?
Hawaii
Carmen, can't take any credit for those lines and swirls, although it was a lot of fun practicing and having success at it. This looks like another take on McTavishing and Tina Collins shows exactly how to do this quilting on APQS Youtube (link above).

RitaR
Those pot holders are so wonderful.. easy to get on the hand, the hand part can be made larger for long hands, if needed... There use to be a heart pattern that made the same type of pot holder. Love the quilting, and finished product...
WestieMom
Great idea for next year...as gifts! I'm still trying to finish up several Christmas gifts...but instead I'm browsing the forum I keep telling myself they'll get done! Anyone have a spare magic wand? Sandra Darlington
Nice idea! I'll have to remember that one for next year. This year I still have 3 fleece throws to embroider names on and then quilt and bind for my grandchildren, and a cutsie animal towel to embroider for my youngest grandson. Then to start baking. If course, all this needs to get done around 2 work Christmas parties, our Guild's party, 2 dinners with friends, a hairdresser appointment and a trip to the nail salon for the 2 work parties this coming week. I can't quilt at all this coming week, until the weekend. Where is the time going????? I'm already making myself the same promise I make every year and that is to start my Christmas gifts EARLY!!!! When am I going to listen to myself?

cmkeindl1
I make hot pads all the time (mostly for other people), just finally threw away some of my own 15 year old ones burned on the edge and stained! I use all types of batting scraps (thin) and a layer of teflon (the ironing board stuff) layer: thin batting-teflon (silver away from hand)-thin batting Although I have tried the "thermal batting" and it works great too, I do add a thin layer of batting close to the hand. p.s. layer your fabrics and fillers and hold up against an iron to test! Sandra Darlington
I've used Insulbrite (sp?) in my potholders, along with 100% cotton batting.
